Residual Echo Suppression by the Preprocessor
The residual echo suppression is supposed to be working decently well
now. However, it's not designed to counter the effects of samples being
dropped off the soundcard. You'll just need to fix that problem for real.

echo cancellation input/output delay
Hi,
I've been reading the speex echo cancellation documentation
and it says :
".... It is important that, at any time, any echo that is
present in the input has already been sent to the echo
canceller as echo_frame. ... ";
All I'm doing in the echo cancellation process is
initializing it once with a call to :
SpeexEchoState* speex_echo_state_init(int frame_size, int

AEC seems to distort voice
Hi,
I've set up speex AEC in our application. The echo's seem to be
canceling, but the captured voice is distorted somehow. It sounds to me
like low and/or high frequencies are removed. This happens even if I set
my playback(echo) data to only zero's.
Is this "normal" for the AEC? As far as I understand, if I send 0's as
playback/echo data, the resulting data should be

Backup Echo Suppression
Millions of ordinary people have systems that do not meet your stringent specifications.
It does not matter what OS you or I use. It's the customers for whom this work is done.

Backup Echo Suppression
Believe me; I've "played with" priorities and buffering.
Did you just say you have no idea how the Speex residual echo suppressor works? If that is the case, can you tell me where I could get some information about it?

Backup Echo Suppression
I realize that the preprocessor echo suppression is not designed
specifically to counter the effects of data loss. On the other hand, as
much as I might like to, I do not have the option to "fix that problem
for real." The sad truth is that some end users have systems that may
drop samples, or do other unfathomable things, no matter what I do. I
can not rewrite their drivers, firmware,

WCFXO echo rexolved for me
Hello,
I resolved my echo issue using grandstream/estara etc etc sip phones and
wcfxo interfaces from digium. I swapped out my via kt400 based msi kt4vl
motherboard for an asus p4pe? i845? based motherboard and the echo has
completly gone away along with aggressive suppressor option in the makefile.
I hope this helps others.

Backup Echo Suppression
Jean-Marc,
I think I can speak for most everyone here when I say we appreciate *very
much* your code beyond the codec that helps people who use Speex in real
applications. How far you want to take that code is up to you, of
course. (And contributors, to a degree.)
I don't think any reasonable person is expecting your code to solve
everything. But when people are running up against

AEC learning behaviour
Hello,
We've integrated the speex echo canceller into PulseAudio, and coupled
with the AGC/denoiser, it works reasonably well and has been a breeze to
plug in, so thank you!
One thing we're seeing, though, is that the canceller seems to take some
time (a few seconds) to "learn", so initially the echo is clearly
audible and it slowly fades out. This sometimes occurs in the middle

FAX over IAX
Hi,
We are looking at consolidating our lines with PRI. This will allow the
elimination of many fax lines. Some of them will be replaced with this type
of config ...
PRI * IAX * Channel-Bank FAX
We will have daggressor suppressor enabled. Is anyone doing this and should
I expect smooth operation?

echo paid support
I've got echo problems.

I'll accept free support, but don't mind paying if someone really knows
what they are doing.
I've read the wiki, etc.

SIP X100P Echo Problems
Like most others on this list I also have some really annoying echo whenever
a call goes out to the PSTN from a SIP phone...
SNOM/Budgettone -> Asterisk -> X100P -> PSTN
I have tried every echo canceler in the makefile and turned on and off
aggressive suppressor etc. etc. etc. tried 32,16,128, and 256 bridgetaps and
I can get it reduced to only a few seconds on the intro of the call and

Agreed here. If you can come up with a clean patch to add that feature,
it's something I'd like to see in Speex.

Preprocessor denoise. Does it work?
I'm having trouble with the preprocessor's noise reduction feature.
The basic issue is that it simply doesn't work very well.
With my laptop (whose microphone is otherwise quite capable) I
routinely hear transient background noise, typing, and other "quiet"
sounds leaking through to the speex stream. Even worse, the AGC
feature is blowing these things up into just awful

Echo worse after new echo patch
Hi all,
I was excited to see the announcement on the list regarding the fix for
the echo problems on Digium FXO cards!
I have 2 X101P's, TDM400P with 4 FXS modules and couple of XLite
softphones. A few months back,I had gone thru the recommendation on the
list to remove echo from the SIP phones(I never did have any echo on the
TDM400P FXS phones), and had removed about 90% of the echo.

Scaleable Solution for small office

Have posted to this list a couple of times and have always received great
responses and help. I have a basic * system setup
Using 3 X100P cards with 6 Snom200 IP phones. It was a bit of a struggle
getting everything up and running but have been pretty happy with
the flexibility and ease of *. My major problem is one that has been

OK, then the problem is that I misunderstood the feature. I assumed
that dynamic squelch was part of it, but it's really something more

odd 'digital' sound artifacts
Hi,
I've got some weird sound artifacts happening during calls, they're very
hard to describe, so I have a 122kb recording:
http://openprojects.rarcoa.com/~miztic/artifact.wav
normally the artifacts are just short blips, not quite as long as the
one above, but they sound the same.
When using the aggressive echo suppressor, it seems like those artifacts
cause a really loud buzzing sound to
