Updated MIPs and memory requirements for TI c54x or c55 DSPs
Hi, I can see that there has been some effort to compile the SPEEX codec to operate on the TI c54x and c55x DSPs and I am wondering if anyone would be able to update the mailing list with their current MIPs and Memory resource requirements for their c54x and/or c55x compilation? The only estimate I was able to find in the mailing list archive was 42MIPs but I'm not sure if this is an

Updated MIPs and memory requirements for TI c54x or c55DSPs
Hi, Just a couple tips to reduce complexity. First, I think you'd get a good speedup by enabling the PRECISION16 switch (if it's not done already). This (very) slightly reduces quality, but means you convert a lot of "emulated" 16x32 multiplications into 16x16. There are also several routines that would benefit from platform-specific optimizations. There are already

How Can I Get involved in Speex Fixed-Point Development?
Hi, My name is Jean Quirion and I am a DSP engineer. Currently I am working on a project where it is desired to implement a VoIP solution over a GSM GPRS link. I would like to use Speex as the vocoder for this application. This application would require the Speex encoder/decoder and possibly the pre-processor to run on a low power fixed-point DSP such as a TI C55x. Thus, I am interested in

Resample UltraWideBand to NarrowBand
Hi List, Now I will send to you more specific what I am trying to do. I have one Asterisk Channel where receives Midia Frames in the codecs format: Speex UltraWideBand and Speex NarrowBand. When I use Speex NarrowBand the Asterisk is able to convert this frame to G711. But when I use Speex UltraWideBand the Asterisk don't convert it. Then I need in my Asterisk Channel Source include the Speex

narrowband embedded in wideband
It looks like I'll need to go further into the guts of speex to do this. I do, however, see some lines in nb_celp.c/nb_decode() that look interesting. I guess I'll play with it. I doubt that it will be terribly clean, though. Jean-Marc: Take a look at line 1195 in nb_celp.c (CVS). It reads "speex_warning ("More than to wideband layers found: corrupted

Porting Speex on C5509A and CELP Algorithm Documentation
Jim, Thank you very much for your suggestions. I managed to get the C55x code working on the simulator. I would like to port Speex both on a C5502 EVM and a C5509A EVM. As such, if you can provide me with the details of your port on the C5509A, it would be greatly appreciated. Furthermore, I am looking for some technical documentation on the CELP algorithms. I would like to better

Same bitrates on narrowband for quality 3/4, 5/6, 7/8?
Hi all, When encoding narrowband with speexenc I notice the bitrate is the same for qualities 3 / 4, 5 / 6, and 7 / 8 (8000, 11000, and 15000 respectively). I didn't test this on prior versions of the encoder so I'm not sure if this is something new, but am curious if there is a difference between the above respective settings (does quality 4 yield better results on narrowband than

VOIP: FEC and NARROWBAND
Hello, Is FEC supposed to work in NARROWBAND mode ?(with maxaveragebitrate=12000; maxplaybackrate=8000 ) ?I am having some confusing results, it appears that FEC is enabled in the encoder, but the decoder cannot find any packet with FEC. I am also wondering if this piece of code is correct (webrtc): /* The following is to parse the LBRR flags. */? if (opus_packet_parse(payload,

11kbps narrowband on a 24bit DSP
Hi, I am using speex 1.2beta2 on a 24bit DSP that has a severe program and data space limitations. I am only interested in the speex decoder for 11kbps narrowband implementation. I am using the following parameters and structures 160, /*frameSize*/ 40, /*subframeSize*/ 10, /*lpcSize*/ 17, /*pitchStart*/ 144, /*pitchEnd*/ /* 11 kbps medium bit-rate

narrowband embedded in wideband
Is there any way to access only the narrowband portion of a wideband stream? I'd like to be able to encode the audio only once, but allow members in a conference to have some rough selection of bandwidth, and allow them to move to a lower-bitrate stream if there is a need to do so. Thanks, Matthias -- Matthias Granberry matthias@utdallas.edu (469) 371-0596 --- >8 ---- List archives:

Speex Codec Question
Hi Jean-Marc, We already decided to use Marvell's 88F8618 platform, But I have few questions to you and listed it below, Q1, Can we implement the Speex Codec on Marvell 8618 for non-HW DSP of platform? Q2, Based on ARM9 CPU core, do you have any information to let me estimation the voice computing power for Speex codec? Sorry to bother your job again.... Best Regards Janus ( Freedom )

Speex mem
Hi, I need to get an overview over the memory/speed requirements for speex. We want to investigate whether we can implement on a target processor with limited resources. The target processor is a 16 bit fixed pint DSP with a single ALU and MAC. It runs at 60 MHz and has a total of 16 Kbytes RAM from which other processing also will eat. What we would like to implement is a speex encoder and

Higher quality narrowband streaming options
Hi, Up until now, I've been providing narrowband streams at 24kbps MP3. We've reluctantly been using MP3 instead of say Ogg Vorbis due to wider support. But it's getting to the point where low bitrate MP3 doesn't really cut it anymore. With technologies like AACPlus out there in common usage, people have come to expect better and one can hardly blame them. So I thought

Regarding mismatch in data rates of speex codec
Hi all, Accoring to the Table.8.1 and Table.8.2 of speex manual (Version 1.2 Beta 2), the data rates supported by speex codec for narrowband are 3.95, 5,95 ,8 ,11 ,15 ,18.2 and 24.6kbps. But when I run the code(downloaded from www.speex.org), I am getting data rates of 4,6,8,11.2,15,2,18.4 and 24.8 kbps. That is, for an input of 20ms frame the number of output bits I am getting are

rtp payload lenth
Hello to all speex developers, I have question regarding payload length of narrowband speex in RTP. I were watching tcpdump of the xlite softphone and have found that it uses weird payload length namely 75 Bytes I went through various source and without success. To be clear: For 8000Hz sample in 20 ms that is 160 samples per frame. This makes 50 frames per sec. modes bit-rate 8 kbit/s
