about Speex's PLC
Thanks for the reply. I think I'm beginning to understand but can you clarify a bit more. 1) I am confused on "trade error-free quality" part. Basically the encoder is doing something to the encoded data by looking at the SPEEX_SET_PLC_TUNING parameter? 2) How does the receiver side determine whether the packet loss occured or not? It seems only way is assigning

Hi, I have read the mailing list archives and have a question regarding PLC (packet loss concealment).

Serious, inacceptable artefacts with Ogg Vorbis
Hello developers, I recently participated in a public listening test that was held by German magazine c't. They had two categories, 64 kbps and 128 kbps. I only participated in the 64 kbps test where there were 7 .wav files, with 1 of them the original one and the other 6 being encoded with different encoders. Without knowing which file was encoded with which encoder you had to give each

Antw: Re: OPUS vs MP3
Hi guys, as MP3 and Opus have very similar objectives, I think the original poster's question was a valid one: Why does Opus have more artefacts in the lower frequency ranges than MP3 has? The spontaneous suspect that lower frequency artefacts may be more noticeably than higher frequency artefacts seems plausible, also. Is it a matter of energy (which is higher for higher frequencies)? When

Impossible two bugs in Opus
Hello. Me again. Have you tried to encode piano solo? Noticed high bitrate Opus gave? And there's also artefact at 15kHz which wasn't in the original audio. Visible with Spek program. Download FLAC and Opus both files, new link: http://www.filedropper.com/example_3 FLAC full: 1084 kbps; FLAC solo: 465 kbps. with --bitrate 160: Opus full: 158 kbps; Opus solo: 190 kbps. Opus and sender and receiver sample rate drift.
Hi All. I have an application where the sample rate of the sender and receiver can vary by a small margin and the latency needs to be maintained within bounds and can't drift significantly and the system has to be able to cope with clock mismatches up to 0.5%. For example, the sender may have a clock rate of 48.1kHz and the receiver may have a clock rate of 47.9kHz. Unfortunately the clock

16 bits FLAC file data to 32 bit float buffer for CPU processing
Hello. I create FLAC file decoding, processing and playing program and have the following question : how to convert FLAC 16 bit file data to 32 bit float buffer for CPU processing? I've already inplemented sound playing and tested it with sine wave - it works without problems; I even made writing into decoding buffer values of sine wave, instead of decoded FLAC file data, and it also works

Alleged bug in Silk codec
Hi, Apologies if this is a known issues, but I have found what I believe is a bug in the fixed point implementation of the Silk codec and could not find any mention on this in the archives. The bug can be easily reproduced with the fixed point demo program (./configure ?enable-fixed-point ?disable-float-api && make) using the following command: ./opus_demo voip 16000 1 23000

encode, decode and encode again
(I've already posted this message month ago, but nobody answered, may be it was not delivered to newsgroup?) Hello, All. I wrote an encoder-decoder based on example from OGG-Vorbis SDK. This encoder can encode a large amount of small WAV-files with equal parameters into one sound archive. Then I decode this sound archive back into large amount of small WAV-files. Theese files are

Many changes recently
Hi Everyone, I just merged a lot of changes in the CELT master branch. This should solve the following issues: - tonal artefacts (birdies) at low bit-rate - tonal artefacts in stereo at all rates - low-frequency noise (roughness) on low bit-rate speech The code has been simplified a lot, but there's lots of changes, so please give this a try and see if anything got broken. Cheers,

Alleged bug in Silk codec
Hi Jean Marc, please find attached the audio file (mono 16khz). I shortened it to about 10 seconds. I also add 2 patches that worked for me. Further info that might help: - The problem seems to be related to silk_burg_modified not reaching the maximum gain, so the actual filter order is 16 rather than 2 (which is what would be expected with a sine wave). - The problem seems to happen when

Criteria for individually adressing data ranges within timeseries data
Dear R-Users, my dataset contains timeseries that are structured into task-specific epochs as labelled by a factor and a boolean variable for labelling each data-point within the series as artefact or non-artefact. Now there's no problem in addressing continuous task-specific time-series that are free from artefacts as long as artefacts extend to either boundary of adjacent timeseries but

Runnable R packages
Dear all, I?m working as a data scientist in a major tech company. I have been using R for almost 20 years now and there?s one issue that?s been bugging me of late. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before. R has traditionally been used for running short scripts or data analysis notebooks, but there?s recently been a growing interest in developing full applications in the

Swarm (win95 game) leaving fragments
Hi all, installed the old space shooter Swarm and it is running fine pleased to say except artefacts of lasers and rockets that have been fired staying on screen for up to another 6 seconds. This is as you can imagine a bit irritating as they move with and stay on the screen. Wine x.19. Have set the game to 'unmanaged' by the window manager as was suggested here in another thread, but

Bug: noveau DATA_ERROR / CACHE_ERROR on Quadro NVS 290
Hi, there! Every once in a while / about once a day I have nouveau for a Quadro NVS 290 failing in my system from about kernel 3.10...up to now 3.14, so I finally decided to report this bug as it gets really annoying. After the bug appears, there are some (one per DATA_ERROR line) small 20x20 to 40x40 pixel sized odd shaped white block artefacts stuck on my (dual monitor) desktop. After a restart

Video troubles after 7.5 upgrade using CR repo
Hi, Our desktop clients are running CentOS 7 with the Xfce desktop from EPEL. The CR repository is enabled. A few days ago I launched an update, which brought in close to 1 GB of packages. I had some weird problems on two clients. One is an old Dell Optiplex 330 with a legacy video card. I'm almost very impressed with theora 1.1 beta 3
Firstly I have to say that having just tried out theora 1.1 beta 3 the improvement over the previous 1.0 is amazing. In my very subjective view it looks like the same quality for about half the bitrate and that's amazingly impressive. The results have for the most part been excellent and my congratulations to all concerned for there very hard work. There is (for me) only one serious problem

extlinux from syslinux 4.04 failed hard after choosing bzImage.
Hi, Today I replaced grub(1) with syslinux on my laptop, after rebooting to syslinux and selecting kernel I got massive freeze along with colorful output to screen - http://i.imgur.com/lFjFc.jpg I think I tried everything, even doing esc and writing after boot: /bzImage-3.1.0, after enter I had the same freeze with the same screen artefacts. How I installed extlinux: mkdir /boot/extlinux
