Question from XM Radio
Hi,

if you wait a little longer, I am trying to provide speex support for the
ffmpeg project (www.ffmpeg.org).
It does encode/decode to/from avi and wav, a support for ogg has not been
done, and my question is, should it be necessary? I don't really like ogg in
first place..

Question from XM Radio
Thanks for the reply. We are currently using AMBE (4Kbps) for our Traffic/Weather Channels. If you have ever had a chance to hear the service, you will know that AMBE does not do us well.
I understand that 2Kbps is low quality, but any poorer than AMBE?
If can get a decent quality for other low bandwidth talk channels, such as about 10-16Kbps and have it sound rather clean, then I would be

Question from XM Radio
Thanks Jim, that's understood. When I say AMBE isn't working well, I
only mean from the audience acceptance point of view. Technically it is
fine. It is exactly doing the job we had expected.
It's the long standing wish that everyone wants... More for less. We
are just seeking a bit of magic that just may not be there. Ideally

uncompressed FLAC
Hi
i have seen that the dbPowerAmp ripping and encoding software supports a
new so-called "FLAC uncompressed" format, e.g.

i know only the normal flac compression levels from 0 to 8. have i

uncompressed FLAC
What dbPowerAmp does is encapsulate the wav file into a FLAC container
without actually compressing it. I guess it can be a bit arguable if you
can technically call it a FLAC file :)
It's like using "Store" mode in RAR, for instance. The idea behing this
"uncompressed FLAC" is to give the FLAC tagging abilities to people who
don't want to compress their files. But

CD ripper software
I've been having problems with Audiograbber, it got the track breaks all
wrong on a couple of CDs. I think it re-used the track breaks from the first
CD when reading subsequent CDs.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good CD ripper? I've also tried
Exact Audio Copy, but didn't get on with it very well.

listening to gsm files
Hello list,
I am having trouble listening to GSM files created by Asterisk using a
browser. I am noticing that some of my users succeed in listening to them
and some others don't. I guess it is something of a codec problem that
does not seem to be installed on all machines (though they are all WinXP).
Anybody knows what one should do to listen to GSM files?
I send files through the

Any help is appreciated.

Freeware windows ogg audio CD burner?
Does such a thing exist?
I know I can convert the oggs to wavs and then to the audio CD, but it would
be good to do it in one step.
If there is nothing available right now, are there any freeware /
open-source products in the pipeline?
Thanks

Hi I am Rupesh from India. I have a huge directory of size 93.5 gb with
8500 mp3 files and 2000 sub directories.
All these mp3s are speeches recorded by someone at 64 kbps. I want to

kbps bit rate and 11050 sample rate.
I have compressed the above huge directory with above options using ffmpeg

[sorta offtopic] Removing bad bytes from filenames
I'm moving my Ogg Vorbis collection off of my Linux server and onto my
laptop. I plan on using iTunes to play my collection, but, that's a
whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm having trouble moving my complete collection over because dbPowerAmp
(an application I used to love) made some dumb decisions about naming my
files. For example, in track/album/artist names that contained a

Good Admin tool ?
Hi all,
Just wondering what Samba administration tool is the most frequently used ?
What tool do admins use daily ? I've tried Cmd line / Samba tools, Swat,
Webmin, LAM... and still haven't found a full-featured one and
*user-friendly* one...
Many Thanks :)

Is there a program that allows conversion of Real files (*.rm) to Ogg

Audio CDs not detected by winecfg, and dbpoweramp CD Ripper
Hi !
Audio CDs seem to be invisible to winecfg. I want to use dbpowerramp CD Ripper under Linux using WINE. CD Ripper doesn't see audio CDs, too.
I am using WINE 1.3.33, Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. Ubuntu itself correctly identifies the CD drives, and the Audio CDs. The CD-Rom-Drives are internal ATAPI drives, and external Plextor drives connected via firewire. If I put _data_ CDs into those drives

XaMp Studio edition won't play XM Radio on Ubuntu 9.04
XaMp studio is the coolest stand-alone player for XM Radio's XM Radio Online service (XMRO). http://xamp.imomo.net/
It installs just fine.
It loads just fine and logs into XM Radio and displays the channel list fine too. But when you hit play, it gets a "Stream Error: 1001" error message.
I sure would like to get this working. I have converted from Windows XP to Ubuntu and really
