Okay.
You didn't give me any details though. I mean, is it actually feasible?
And the point is to record, not just play.

Speex hardware support?
I'm not aware of any hardware player supporting Speex, but if you want
to contact companies, you can always start with Rio, iRiver, ... or
Apple? :-)

While I'm Thinking About metaflac...
While I'm playing around with it, I'd like to ask about something I've
noticed.
Sometimes when I use metaflac to add tags, it performs it's operation
instantly in a split second. Other times the same command causes lot of HDD
I/O's and I can see it create a "filename.flac.metadata_edit" temp file.
For example - I just added tags to a 25MB file and it took 15 seconds

While I'm Thinking About metaflac...
Thanks Graue. That makes sense.
Like I said - it's not causing a problem, I was just curious what it was
doing.

FLAC 1.2.0 released
Pleas learn how to snip uneeded text from your posts.
Version 1.2.0 is a stable release, which had some earlier beta
revisions. I'd say it was quite well tested.
Furthermore, there's no upgrade risk, as the API is still compatible.
FLAC is backwards and forwards compatible.

Bug: flac --replay-gain thinks that I used --no-padding
If I use flac to encode with the --replay-gain
option, I get a warning about the --no-padding
option...
"NOTE: --replay-gain may leave a small PADDING block even with --no-padding"
...even though I'm not using --no-padding. And the
file does end up with a small padding block, so
changing tags is slow.
I'd fixed this bug in my own copy of flac 1.1.4,
but forgot to submit the

Hardware support
What's the current state of hardware support for Ogg Vorbis? Any decent
players out there? I have an iRiver iHP-120 and am thinking about upgrading,
any recommendations?

Speex, what container?
The aplication that I am developing is like a sound recorder (goes directly to the soundboard and start capturing the sound and writing the file, using the directsound api). I'm already capable of writing to normal wav files but I wanted to encode the audio with speex to have smaller size (and still good quality).
How can I write the wav files with speex content using the ACM codec? (like

FLAC, ogg and iRiver
I've seen in this discussion:
http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/200304/0000.html
that not only is it possible for the iRiver iMP-350 to play Ogg, it can also
play FLAC - I didn't know this, and two question arrise:
* It is possible to get the iRiver H120/140 to play FLAC (I know the Rio Karma can)
* People sometimes say things like "Ogg is not tuned well for high bit rates"

command line speex program?
I need to convert .dcr files (from a Liberty Recorder) into a smaller
size format that is more universally able to be listened to. After
looking around quite a bit I can't seem to find anything except
windows programs. I need to run it on my linux server. Any help or
resources would be appreciated!

portable ogg hardware update
Does anyone know of any updates in the portable ogg support category? How's the iRiver evaluation unit scenario working out (http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/hardware.html) ? Can I safely assume that any retail product being available by Christmas falls in to the "Snowballs chance in... a very warm place" category.
Also, I happen to be one of the (apparently) few people who purchased

Support for tags in speex files?
Dear speex developers,
Would it be possible to have tags in speex files?
I have a good amount of spoken audio (currently in MP3 format) and I
would like to convert it to speex, since it seems to be the best choice
for voice recordings.
Unfortunately, without tags, it is quite hard to identify the speeches.
Ideally, I would love if tag support were included into easytag, so that
I can manipulate

(maybe OFF-TOPIC:) speex for voice-message/mail application
Hi,
This may not be the right place to ask this question, but for the want of a
better alternative I am posing this query here. Pointing to the more
appropriate forum would be immensely appreciated.
Are there any existing products / projects that use Speex for discontinuous
transmission, as in voice-message / voice-mail application ?
Also, what is the recommended container format for speex
