Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail. I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new hardware. The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily. We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream' nature of files from a

flac ogg quicktime iTunes
Hello, I'm going to start by asking something that has probably been asked before (although I didn't see it on the lists at sourceforge). Is anyone working on getting iTunes to work with flac? I'm bouncing around a few ideas and it seems like the logical approach would be to write a quicktime component using this project as a base http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net I see a

ogg files with spx and tagging
Dear Developers, I am currently involved in the co-ordination of archiving a whole heap of tapes containing audio (4000+ sermons for www.newcreation.org.au) to digital format. At present, all the tapes have been converted into mp3 @ CBR 40kbs, 44100 Hz... And this appears to play in most portable players capable of playing mp3's. (ogg vorbis isn't that widely supported, and many portable

Macintosh sandbox denying access folder
Hi all, Have any of you had experience with macintosh's sandbox denying access to a folder served by Samba? I don't know exactly how to reproduce, so here's everything (?): I'm running macOS Catalina (10.15.1). In the terminal I start a python command interpreter. python # then >>>import os # then I repeatedly list a directory others have been having problems

I can listen to a stream locally but not from anywhere else.
Also don't forget that the full version of WinAmp is required to play oggs. The lite version doesn't support it. iTunes can play local .ogg files but not streams if you download the ogg components from qtcomponents.sf.net. I haven't messed with real player, and I have no intention of doing so. Joel Karl Heyes wrote: > On Mon, 2005-01-31 at 16:46, Brian Beck wrote: >

problems with auto mounted share from Macintosh server on SuSE Linux
I recently switched from using Redhat Linux 9 to SuSE 9.2 Pro and am having problems with an auto mounted share served from a Macintosh running Mac OS 10.3.6. I can read from the share without problems. However, writing to it is a different story. All the files/folders on the share are owned by janee in the group janee and have rw owner and group permissions. I've tried playing with the

Quicktime components and FLAC
Hi all, OK, so I just bought myself a nice shiny new powerbook. Nice machine. Very nice machine :-) But, iTunes does not understand FLAC. My Digitised music collection (entirely my own, ripped from my cd's, blah, blah, blah) is now mostly in FLAC (as I slowly go through and convert it will all be in FLAC :-) So, I have a problem. Or, if you want to look at it another way, I have an itch. An

[Flac-users] Quicktime plug-in?
try this site first: http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/ I don't think they have flac yet, but they were the ones working on vorbis for quicktime (and thus iTunes)... and someone started a speex project there too. If someone would volunteer to add a flac component, I'm sure it would happen. Check their user support forums... there has been interest for a flac component. This is

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello, Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is a must. I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true? Thanks, Joe

Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.plus.c4 doesn´t boot
Hi, after upgrading with yum upgrade my server doesn?t boot with kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.plus.c4 d. Kernel CentOS-4 x86_64 (2.6.9-34.EL) works just fine. I use 2 HDD as RAID1. Unfortunaly this is a root server so i do not have any console output. This is rather disappointing cause i run mission critical applications on the server. I guess the updates should be used with more caution. Regards,

Macintosh binaries; was: Rcmdr and Macintosh
I am a Windows user and trying to make life easier for my Mac-using students. After investigating the Mac situation more, it appears that the key to easy use is having precompiled binaries. However the packages I am interested in (Rcmdr and its required package, car) do not have one. I do not have easy access to a Mac, so I have a plea to Macintosh users: could someone please create them if it is

Platform independent solution to watch "Streaming Service of the Council of the European Union.
"The Council of the EU has a streaming service so that we can watch its meetings ? but the service can only be accessed by Mac or MS Windows users. This is because they employ WMV format for the videos. In the FAQ they express a really strange opinion about this: 'The live streaming media service of the Council of the European Union can be viewed on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh

changing macintosh type and creator codes
Anytime a PC on our network copies a file to our server and a macintosh client goes to view that file, the type and creator codes are incorrect. We are running Samba for Windows clients and Xinet KA-Share for Mac clients. I think it has something to do with the resource forks. I can copy a file to the server from a Mac then copy the file from the server to a windows machine and back again

Pros & Cons - Microsoft Office on Macintosh OS X
Hello Boys and Girls and Everybody. I have recently started using a Macintosh computer to replace the dinosaur of an unbelievably unreliable PC that I have been using for the last 10 years. So far I have been very pleased. I have been using OpenOffice for quite a while now as I find it is mostly superior to Microsoft Office in many ways, HOWEVER - OpenOffice lacks the Voice Recognition Software

Can u prevent a macintosh from leaving it's of trash files on the shares?
I recently installed DAVE on two of the office Macintoshes. (running 0S9.2 and OS8.6)(DAVE is mac to windows(samba) filesharing utility) I use SAMBA from the testing version of DEBIAN. The mac's leave alot of files on the shares that i find annoying. Is there a method I could use to prevent the mac from leaving it's "trash". (filname filtering perhaps)
