Output of --list-only not as I expected for symlinks
Thank you. But I'm afraid I don't understand. The man entry reads:
"--list-only
This option will cause the source files to be listed instead of
transferred. This option is inferred if there is a single source arg and
no destination specified..."
It doesn't say anything about "list remote files". In fact I am not sure
why it would even contact the remote

Output of --list-only not as I expected for symlinks
My apologies. I'm evidently not communicating very well.
I am not asking for a list of what "needs to be transferred", I am
looking for a list of those things that are "candidates to transfer". In
other words, the source items minus exclusions/filters or anything else
that will be ignored (by rsync).
Is there any option for rsync that offers such a list?

Output of --list-only not as I expected for symlinks
--list-only is simply a way to list remote files when you only have
access via rsync. It ignores the rest of the command line. You want
--dry-run (--itemize-changes would be a good idea too).

Output of --list-only not as I expected for symlinks
How would it know what needs to be transferred without looking at both
source and target? You are correct that it doesn't pay any attention to
the target because it doesn't need a target. If the source is remote
then it will connect to the remote to do a remote listing and if the
source is local then no connection is needed but then neither is rsync.
As far as obeying the recursive flag,

Dovecot2 + Sieve
Hi,
i'm new on sieve, but want to use ist with sogo.
The Problem is, that when i set a redirect or vacation rule like:
redirect "email at example.com"; (real Adress is different)
the sieve says the mail would be forwarded, but no mail is sent. (No
Action in /var/log/maillog)
And because there is no Error-Message it's difficult to search for...

Are your symlinks identified as symlinks on Samba/SMB shares?
Hi,
I would appreciate someone testing if their system can recognize symlinks (as below) on their SMB share. My Mac and Windows machines can NOT recognize symlinks on my NAS's SMB share, they just identify symlinks as real files and folders.
Why is this an issue? Because when I try to copy parts of these backups from the NAS it just loops back on itself forever.
Eg:

--copy-unsafe-links does not work for "double" symlinks
Hi,
as documented, if you use rsync with --copy-unsafe-links, and copy a
directory with a symlink pointing outside of the copied tree, the
referent of the symlink is copied.
Now, assume that the directory contains a symlink, which points to a
(2nd) directory outside of the copied tree.
If this (2nd) directory contains another symlink, which also points outside
of the copied tree, rsync

--keep-dirlinks --delete erroneously deletes symlinks to directories
Hi,
the combination of --keep-dirlinks and --delete (--delete-during,
--delete-delay) erroneously deletes symlinks to directories on
the receiver.
With --delete-before and --delete-after it works as expected.
(rsync version 3.0.3 protocol version, on Debian Lenny)
I don't think that this behaviour is intended.

Shared mailboxes (maildir, symlinks) and permissions
Hello list,
I am trying to set up a public mailbox for users to put spam in so that
sa-learn can do its job at night. Only I can't seem to fully understand how
and which permissions should be set. I've read [1] and am using Dovecot
1.0.1.
First some background information: I do not host or care (at the moment) about
virtual users or virtual mail hosting. All users have Unix system

Voice mail is not giving unavailable or busy prompts
Hi:
This should be easy. I'm running 1.2.15.
When a caller calls someone's voice mail, it goes straight to a beep,
even though there is an unavail.wav file in that user's voice mail
directory.
Here is the relevant part of extensions.conf:

How the Centos 5.0's kickstart initrd.img is build??
Hi,
Any one know how the Centos 5 kickstart initrd.img was built? I'll be
very appreciated if any light can be shed on this topic. The basic
problem to be solved here is: how to build a custom vmlinuz+initrd.img
for Centos 5 kickstart with my own custom built kernel?
I am not sure mkinitrd is the right tool for this purpose? If do, which
are the modules I should include with

Problems Syncing Home Directories
Hello All,
I administrate public Internet computers for a number of libraries.
I have a user ''public'' and I am trying to keep all the home''s for this
user the same across multiple computers. When I try to do this with
puppet, I get errors for some directories. It only happens on hidden
directories, but I''m not sure if it is all of them, or just some of
them.

Linking mailboxes
Hi,
I am new to Dovecot and I am trying to link an email account folder to
another Maildir(its a backup of the older email). I want the email account
to be able to access the older emails.
I am assuming this is done by creating a symlink?
Currently reading instructions on this page:-

At the moment I have the folder:-

IPhone wont delete IMAP messages from dovecot mailbox
Hello!
I've got dovecot running with postfix. Have virtual users under vmail
folder.
When I connect with outlook, I can read, delete messages.
When I sign on with webmail, also can delete messages,
Mutt is working as well on the mail server, can delete messages.
Once the message is deleted it moves to the trash. Works as it
supposed to.
But on Iphone, when I add a mail user, got the
