Running MacOSX as VM under CentOS 5.10?
Is it even remotely possible to run MacOSX (or Darwin) as VM under CentOS 5.10 / xen? Or am I better off not even trying and just getting a MacMini or MacBook to just jack into my LAN? I just need a 'build box' and possibly something to do light testing (eg does the program run? Does the GUI come up?). I don't really have the *physical* room for an iMac, unless the screen is tiny.

rarefaction variance
Here's a question for ecologists on the r-help list-- I'm addressing this to ecologists in particular because they're most likely to be familiar with the equation in question but I'll be happy to discuss the problem with anyone who's willing to take a whack at it. I'm trying to write a function to calculate the large sample variance of species richness estimates by

Second, I realize that actually there was one thing different between the machines: due to a more frequent use of the iMac, I have a group of environment variables that are set to my developer folder; and the $PATH is one of those. Poor ipsec performance with policy match
Hello ! I have a performance issue with Kernel 2.6.X and policy match support as suggested in http://shorewall.net/IPSEC-2.6.html. My IPSEC performance doesn''t exeed about 30kbyte/sec even if my downlink is 1024kbit/sec and should reach more than 100kbyte/sec. No, its not the cpu''s performance (AMD Barton 2500+) and no it''s not the gateway (CELERON 600 Mhz) on the

SuSe 9.1 startup issue
Tom, I am NOT subscribed (yet). I dropped SuSeFirewall2 in favor of shorewall to get past the configuration hurdles I as experiencing. At the moment, when my SuSe 9.1 starts up, I can see shorewall processing the rules, policies, etc. and I see no errors and then moves on with the rest of the SuSe boot process . However, no traffic passes through using the rules. I run an iptables -L and I

why are qemu-img and vhd-util created files incompatible?
I was wondering if someone can shed some light on why vhd files created with qemu-img don''t really work right with vhd-util and consequentially blktap in general. To validate the incompatiblity its simple enough to do qemu-img create -f vpc test.vhd 40g vhd-util snapshot -n child.vhd -p test.vhd Which will show the below and then the headers don''t display the BATMAP summary:

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions? Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories. Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order?
