Per-user home filesystems and OS-X Leopard anomaly
I encountered an issue that people using OS-X systems as NFS clients need to be aware of. While not strictly a ZFS issue, it may be encounted most often by ZFS users since ZFS makes it easy to support and export per-user filesystems. The problem I encountered was when using ZFS to create exported per-user filesystems and the OS-X automounter to perform the necessary mount magic. OS-X

Xen vs. iSCSI
[previously sent to rhelv5 list, apologies to those on both] I've got a problem I can reproduce easily enough, but really I fail to understand what's going wrong. I've got a 5.3 Dom0, which is running three guests. One is Fedora 10, that runs with local flat files, and works fine. One is Nexenta 2 (opensolaris-based), and that runs off of physical partitions, and seems to work

AppleMail 1.3 filter problem [solved] / fc5 package of 1.0rc7
Hi, Folks, I recently migrated from courier-imapd to dovecot when I migrated a machine from rh9 to fc5. I managed to hit a snag with the 1.0b8 version of dovecot that's currently in fc5. With AppleMail 1.3 I was seeing most of my incoming mail go missing. To make a long story short, AppleMail was applying mail filters inappropriately (walking right past a 'stop processing'

VirtIO with CentOS 5.4
Hi, all, I'm attempting to run a Windows 2003 (32-bit) VM under CentOS 5.4, generally following: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM I've seen nice performance benefits with the VirtIO driver under Fedora, so I'd like to get that running with CentOS as well. I have the September drivers build .iso. According to: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Virtio I need a KVM version 60

kvm guest from zfs dataset
Hi all, I thought I?d post this in case any one has issues similar to mine. First, my initial email to the list which I didn?t send; I?m trying to run a KVM based guest OS off of a mirrored ZFS dataset. It won?t run with errors "invalid argument..", but will run when on the root volume, or when that ZFS dataset has been removed in favor of an EXT4 volumes. Thanks in advance, PS I

ZFS Hardware Check, OS X Compatibility, NEWBIE!!
This is my first post here, and i hope it is ok that i posted in this thread. I have been doing a bit of reading on the solaris platforms, and seem to be inclined to try out the open solaris os or solaris 10. My only worry is that my lack of knowledge with the command line may make this difficult regarding trouble shooting. It seems fairly straighforward creating zpools etc, but maybe nexenta is

confused about zpool import -f and export
Hi, all, I think I''m missing a concept with import and export. I''m working on installing a Nexenta b134 system under Xen, and I have to run the installer under hvm mode, then I''m trying to get it back up under pv mode. In that process the controller names change, and that''s where I''m getting tripped up. I do a successful install, then I boot OK,

exclude an excluded file from being deleted by --delete-excluded
Hi, I have a particular directory in my exclude list, but I want it excluded from --delete-excluded. Is this possible. or maybe if I explain what I'm trying to do, someone will come up with a more suitable way. I am using rsync (2.6.6) to backup data from a Windows Server (cygwin) to an OpenBSD box. rsync -rtvz --delete-excluded --del --timeout=3600 -e "ssh -i c:\cygwin\ssh-key"

Two bugs in rsync (--dry-run and --delete-excluded)
Hi rsync gurus! [Please Cc: me, as I am NOT subscribed to the list!] First the data points: debian/woody, local server=i386 arch, remote is alpha arch rsync version on both debian 2.5.5-0.2 While upgrading our server to a raid we were hit by a bug which I really consider very strange: The option -n/--dry-run does NOT change files, but DELETE files when called with --delete. --delete-excluded not working on local rsync
I am using the following command and the excluded directory /usr/share/doc/ still appears with all it's contents in the backup directory when it's contents should be deleted. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? rsync --delete --delete-excluded -a -R --exclude="/proc/*" --exclude="/dev/*" --exclude="/usr/share/doc/*" --exclude="/backup*"

protecting files from deletion, and using --delete-excluded
Hi all, I am trying to write a script based on rsync to help users select what they want to mirror, what they want to skip and what they want to delete on the remote side. Let's say that I have 1 directory per release: r1.0 r1.1 r2.0 r2.1 r3.1 r3.2 r4.0 r4.1 At some point I have mirrored all of them, but now I want to be able to tell rsync to: - remove all r1.* and r2.* releases - skip
