Experiences with CentOS & MacBook Pro?
Ok,
I'm finally of a mindset to replace my now tired, aging Dell Inspiron 600m.
I'm currently running Fedora Core on it, and am fairly happy with the
software.
Has anybody used CentOS on a Macbook Pro? What gotchas are there? (The first
that comes to mind is the lack of a right mousebutton) Scouting on the
Internet, I've seen that some people have trouble getting sound to work.

MacBook Pro and CentOS-5
After a long, and quite disheartening, series of hardware problems
with my HP laptop I decided to try out a Mac (late 2009 Intel based
19.5 inch). In the months since January past I have discovered this
to be no significant improvement and I have grown tired of the
persistent wireless connectivity problems and am totally put off by
the upgrade to OSX-10.6.4 which killed HD graphics using Open-Gl.

How to properly bridge the network to CentOS under Parallels on a Macbook Pro?
Hi all,
I have recently acquired a Macbook Pro (sweet machine!) from my
employer, and one of the tasks the machine has to do is to run a
distributed software development platform (called Splice) under Linux.
For this task, I have chosen the trusty CentOS 4.4, and I have it set
up in Parallels. So far, so good. Now then, the network does work
within CentOS, but I want to assign it a fixed

Centos 8 on Macbook
Folks
I am trying to install Centos 8.1 on a MacBook Pro. I have a
bootable USB stick with centos-8.1-boot (which I think is the
equivalent of a netinstall), and it boots. However, when I select
the storage option, and choose to make more space on the SSD, go
through the confirming dialogs, the installer complains that it was
unable to save the information to the disk. A similar attempt

Syslinux on MacBook Pro?
Hi,
Did anybody have success with running Syslinux on a MacBook Pro? I
didn't manage, but I admittedly have no idea about UEFI. I've also
heard that these machines deviate from the UEFI spec in some way...

How to set up R for Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo
I just recently purchased a Macbook Pro, Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 512 MB RAM.
After looking through several articles in this forum I found the link to the
R Mac Wiki. I am not that tech-savy but it appeared to me that this link,
http://wiki.urbanek.info/index.cgi?IntelMacR
describes how to install R on a Intel Mac Core Duo to utilise the two cores.
I have also downloaded and installed the

Installation on a Macbook Pro with nVidia MCP89 SATA controller
Did anybody succeed in installing CentOS on a MacBook Pro with nVidia
chipset (2010 edition,
http://www.heise.de/mac-and-i/produkte/macbook-13-2-4-ghz-mitte-2010-86/#produkt_detail)?
When I boot with the current minimal install disk, Linux does simply see
non disks.

mmap error-12, macbook pro
Hi,
I am trying to read some files using read.csv and total size of those files

to run a chunk from those files and altogether the size was 1.33 GB. But
every time I was getting the following error

So to test this all someone has to do is pull this and try it? No
patching required?

CentOS 7 on Macbook Pro : keyboard mapping problem
Hi,
Some time ago I installed CentOS 7 on an older MacBook Pro for a client,
since she couldn't install a more recent version of Mac OS X on it.
The installation was a bit of an adventure, and I wrote a little article
about it:
https://blog.microlinux.fr/centos-7-macbook-pro/
I made this installation about a year ago, and the only thing I changed
since then is replacing Xfce by GNOME.

OT: iBook or MacBook Pro?
Well, the worm has turned and I think I may actually get an Apple ;P.
But I can''t decide which one. Pros and cons:
14" iBook:
+ modem (for when broadband kicks out, or on the road and there''s no
WIFI)
+ screen is probably big enough (though I currently have a 15" Dell)
+ doesn''t get as hot as the MacBook
+ almost half the cost
+ less likely to get stolen

CentOS 5.2 and wired Ethernet on a Macbook Pro?
I recently installed CentOS 5.2 64-bit on a partition on a MacBook Pro 17
inch. It installed just fine, but wired Ethernet is not available. lspci
shows it as nVidia...unknown.
Is it possible to get wired Ethernet running on this laptop under CentOS
without having to create a virtual machine installation of CentOS?
If so, what is the magic?
Thanks.

centos 7 on older macbook pro
Hi all,
I recently got a brand new MacBook Pro, replacing one that is over 5.5
years old. I'm trying to think of something to do with the old laptop,
and one idea I had was to put CentOS on it. After some initial
struggles, I finally found this page, which tells how to tell the
installer to find hfsplus-utils:
https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=7327
Then I got to the point of configuring

Hello,
On my system (Linux 3.3, booting in EFI mode, using Nouveau with
nouveau.noaccel=1 due to

how to change the backlight or switch which of the two graphics cards (I
have an Nvidia 9600M GT and a 9400M, both are recognized by nouveau but
only the 9400M is ever used) Linux uses for the framebuffer or X uses

Run Mac OS as HVM guest on Macbook Pro
I just purchased an MBP, and having relied on Xen for virtualization on my
servers for a long time now, I''d like to try setting up Mac OS as a domU on
the laptop so that I can run other VMs under Xen to have real *nix
environments at all times for non-Mac OS development. I''ve been looking
around online, but haven''t seen anything particularly recent about running
Mac OS
