error from repository http://apt.van-belle.nl/
hai,
?
To explain this a bit more.
All my repo's are set per os and samba version.
So as long you dont change the sambaXXX version, you stay on that version and minimze risk with changes in samba.
Its always :? http://apt.van-belle.nl/debian?
And all you change is :??? buster-samba412?
Current available versions are :
stretch-samba410
stretch-samba411
buster-samba411
buster-samba412

Your opinion: What's the best VM for Samba DC's
Hi all,
I know this isn't strictly Samba related, but I have a fileserver and want
to install some VM software on it so I can build a new Samba DC on there
and still keep the fileserver running.
In your experience, what's the best VM to install?
Are there any which wok better or worse with Samba? Does it make any
difference?
I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.1
Thanks!

Debian Buster Samba 4.13 online (amd64/i386/armhf )
Hai,
?
Debian Buster Samba 4.13 is now online on my repo.
Info : https://apt.van-belle.nl/
With the release of 4.13 the following changes are going to happen in the repo's.
Current (recently sended?list)
OS-sambaXXXX with EOL wont be supported anymore, upgrade your OS and/or Samba versions!
EOL repo's will stay online for about 6 months, that gives sufficient time to upgrade.

They are installed. I built the server using the walk through you gave me.

Changing IP Scope on a Samba DC
OK.. after school ended today, I poked around and found nothing so I
started all over again. Followed Louis' instructions at
https://github.com/thctlo/samba4/blob/master/full-howto-Ubuntu18.04-samba-AD_DC.txt
all the way through but at the end, the resolver is not working - and kinit
cannot find a KDC (I'm guessing because the resolver is not working!)
This is the only server on the

Samba broken after dist-upgrade in Ubuntu 20.04?
Hello,
I installed updates today on my Ubuntu 20.04 and after that, Samba was disabled/masked/not installed at all.
Even attempting to install samba again reports:
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of

Re: libvirt dynamic file ownership
Hi Martin, thanks for the explanation. Now I understand why libvirt doesn't
revert the file permissions back to the original. I am running these VMs on
an isolated test machine, so I'll disable dynamic file ownership and make
sure libvirt has access to image files.
Sorry about the message formatting. I modified settings on my client,
hopefully it sends plaintext now. (I'll switch to

Samba shares with Windows ACL's
I'm having trouble with my new fileserver, I can't make the shares viewable
by windows clients.
I had the same problems with the first file server I built and cannot
remember what I did to "fix" it.
I have gone through the page "Setting up a share using Windows ACL's" on
the Samba Wiki (
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs) but

Restore fails on new server
I had to replace a server. Backed up the entire system using Clonezilla,
created the partitions on the new server exactly as they were (hardware is
identical) and then restored the backup onto the new server.
On attempting to boot, I get a couple of ACPI errors and then an error
connecting to a data drive that holds no system files and then Ubuntu
panics and puts me into a recovery mode with no

R 4.0 for ARM processors
Hmmmm. Perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology. My logic is: (1) I am running Ubuntu focal on the cluster. (2) Ubuntu focal is built on Debian bullseye but (3) Debian bullseye is not yet the stable release; it is the 'testing' release; hence (4) I will pull the r-base-core package from the 'testing' version of Debian. And, in fact, I found r-base-core for 4.0.2 in the bullseye
