Q: Samba4 AD DC & small office file sharing
In lieu of virtualization, I wouldn't be opposed to some small, inexpensive appliance type device (sort of like the Netgate firewalls that run pfsense). I came across the MintBox Mini Pro (http://www.fit-pc.com/web/products/mintbox/mintbox-mini-pro/) Any experience or alternate suggestions? Upgrading samba and OS - can I rejoin ?
Hi, I want to upgrade samba 4.8.2 to samba 4.10.7. According to here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Upgrading_a_Samba_AD_DC#Rejoining_the_upgraded_DC best way is to rejoin the server after the upgrade. But also I need to upgrade the OS, in my case it means a new installation from the OS, because an upgrade is not possible, the old and the new version are to different. Can I do this the

setting up W7 profiles
I am setting up W7 profiles following the "Samba & Windows Profiles" on the Sambawiki. If it matters, I have two functional DC's and one member server. When I run '# chmod 1770 /srv/samba/profiles' (on the member server) the permissions changed to: root at mbr01:~# ls -alh /srv/samba/profiles total 12K drwxrwx--T+ 2 root root 4.0K Mar 1 10:21 . drwxr-xr-t 5 root

Q: Samba AD, Pfsense, Windows 10, vpn
Probably not the best place to ask, but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I have a tiny business. We use Samba for file sharing and authentication in an AD setup. I'm running a pfsense appliance firewall. NAT on the internal network. Is there a way to allow employees to authenticate and access files to encourage remote work? What resource should I look to to figure

Q: Samba 4.10 to 4.11
I was just looking at https://apt.van-belle.nl/ and see that the packages for samba 4.11 and up only appear to be available for Debian 10. Does that imply/state that Debian 10 is required for the newer samba releases starting with 4.11? -- Marco

LDAPS is not working
Hi, after a successfully migrating my NT4 with OpenLDAP to a Samba4 AD...I got a problem. Like in the sambawiki tutorial (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configuring_LDAP_over_SSL_(LDAPS)_on_a_Samba_AD_DC) I tried to configure LDAPS. I used the auto-configured certs. They are located in "/var/lib/samba/private/tls". My smb.conf: # Global parameters [global] netbios name = PDC

I can manually create shares & I can browse netlogon and sysvol of the AD server. Am I missing something or is this

Samba4 and Ubuntu 12.10 : problem to get it working...
Hi all, I'm new to samba : I've just installed it (version 4.0.5) on a 'fresh' Ubuntu 12.10 server (32 bit version), following the HOWTO we can find on the sambawiki. Everything is OK, up to the $ /usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient -L localhost -U% command (running as root) I get the following errors : NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED, even if I replace % by Administrator... What am I

Registry Settings for Windows 7
The sambawiki has some helpful info on a windows 7 box joining a samba 3 domain. It also worked fine with windows 2008 server. My problem is this (quoting from the wiki) "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed. The name will remain "MYDOM". The error was: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"

Proper manner to join second DC
In re-reading the "Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory" Sambawiki page. Is it no longer necessary to manually delete all *.tdb and *.ldb database files from the soon to be joined (second) DC prior to joining? Are these database file deletions NOW "handled" by any one of the "three authentication methods you can use" to join the second DC? (With
