Via C3 and CentOS5
Hi,
I have an Asus terminator C3 with 512Mb. It has a Via P3-800Mhz
CPU, with a VIA chipset. It's currently running FC6. I wanted to
wipe the machine and install CentOS5.
It boots from the CD to the linux prompt, then it fully loads
vmlinux, then starts initrd.img, and somewhere at that point it
reboots.
I have tried: noapic, noapm, noprobe. Same, somewhere during
initrd.img or at then

Beeps and noises during calls
I have a very annoying problem that we hear on our end, but the other
party doesn't hear. There are random beeps and echo type noises that
occur. They are present during voicemails, and present on my end during
calls. Is anyone experiencing the same deal? I have asked this a
number of ways on the list, and never get a response...
Thank you.

Intel G33 Compatibility for Centos Server
Been running rock solid servers on Centos 3 and 4 for
years but equipment is starting to die so it is time.
I was thinking along the lines of an Intel Q6600 on an
Asus P5K-VM mobo with the new G33 chipset utilizing
SATA. Is anyone having success with this board or any
of the G33 chipsets where I am not going to run into
all kinds of install problems?

10-fold speed drop while transferring large files from Windows to Samba server
Hi All,
I have a Linux box (P3-800MHz/196MB RAM/10GB+320GB) running Samba
3.0.22 server and a Windows XP (P3-800MHz/512MB RAM/200GB) client.
The transfer speed (both ways) is about 5-7 MB/s when file is smaller
than 700MB. For larger files there is a difference: when the Win client
writes a file on the small Linux disk (10GB) the speed is as above. But
when I copy, let's say, a 1.5GB file

mainboard recommendations
Hi,
As it has been brought to my attention (by several parties), my current
MB does not support VT-d.
Since I don''t feel like purchasing a brand new system, I have searched
for replacement MB-s
that would fit into my existing uATX case, support my C2D CPU, and
support at least 4x2GB ram.
I have narrowed it down to the following four models:

cheap mobo/cpu combo with hardware virtualization support?
I''ve currently got a Xen 2 system running on a CL10000 VIA system. I''d
like to upgrade to Xen 3 and make use of the hardware virtualization
support in Xen (sometimes). My requirements then:
1) Cheap CPU. AMD or Intel. Must have Xen3 hardware VM support. Any speed.
2) Lower power consumption from the CPU
3) Cheap mobo to support the chip.
4) Decent raid-1 SATA support on the

Asus A7V600 (3C940 1gb) + Oopsing kernel with PXELINUX
Hi!
We (an astronomical center) are building a small cluster for our
number-crunching. The problem is that we have 12 mobos A7V600 by Asus (for
athlons) - 1 server + 11 diskless nodes. And here comes the trouble...
hardware:
mobo: a7v600
net: 1 gigabit by 3com - 3c940, integrated in mobo
the problem is:
dhcp - works fine
tftp - works fine
pxelinux.0 - downloads fine (I hope)

any VT-d enabled mobos for Xeon 5000 series out there ?
Hi list,
i have seen a lot of questions about VT-d on recent intel mobos.
however, it seems that all tests are done on the newer socket 775-based
xeon''s or core2''s, and not the 5000 series (socket 771 based).
i was planning on getting a intel S5000V chipset, but found out that it does
not support VT-d.
Can anyone confirm a mobo that has this enabled and also has 2x LGA771

ASUS M2V mobo issues
We have 4 systems supported by ASUS M2V mobos with AMD2 cpus on board. No
we haven't gotten CentOS of any flavor to work yet. Yes, we did load Fedora
Core 6 and it worked, with respect to the SATA driver only. There is a
RAID, Audio and LAN driver for Linux that comes on the M2V mobo CD. The
audio driver installs and works fine on FC6. I've read many of the messages

Finally cracked the mystery of motherboards with Vt-d support
After contacting Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, this is what I got back.
Only motherboards with the QXX chipsets and certified with the Intel
VPro support the Vt-d virtualization technology.
I''m not sure about MSI though, because this is what I got from their
support: "Almost board could support. Please refer to our website,
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/."
The problem is that

Compiling while * is running
I just fetched today's cvs (1/30/04 11:10:31). Compiles/installs on my
test machine (ASUS A7V, 900 MHZ). However, If I try to compile on my
production machine (Elite K7S5A, 2.4GHz, 512MB) while * is running the
zaptel and asterisk compiles seg fault. I am assuming that they will
compile correctly if I bring down * and rmmod the zaptel driver. 0.7.1
compiled and is now running.

RAID affecting X100P performance...
I have a P3-800 with two IDE drives in a software RAID1 configuration.
Each drive is on a separate IDE channel. Now anytime there is HD
activity, I hear "beeps" and "cutting out" on a call using the X100P
card.
I ran the zttest program, and discovered HD activity would drop the
accuracy down to between 2% and 50%.
However I noticed if I disabled one drive in the RAID1

Centos 5.0 Intel G33/P35 Chipset Support (Asus P5K-VM, P5KC)
I have 2 new boxes that I cannot use yet because of
problems supporting these newer chipsets in 5.1. Does
anyone know when the CD version of 5.0 x86-64 that has
support for these chipsets be available on any on a

Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum

Problems loading CentOS 4.4 on ASUS M2N-MX mobo
I have a brand new ASUS MB model M2N-MX which is giving me issues when
installing Centos 4.4 64 bit
I initially had problems with finding the SATA drives but I resolved that
issue by simply selecting the NVIDIA SATA (sata_nv)driver from the list of
drivers during the initial install.
The install seemed to go fine after that as the installer uses the Generic
VESA video driver during the install,

Asus 990FX chip xen iommu not found?
Hi.
I got a asus SABERTOOTH 990FX, reading about vt-d, I read the MoBo
that support IOMMU and there was chip 990FX, them I pick this MoBo,
the BIOS that came with the board was 0402 05/11.
I follow the xen wiki, I''m running Xen 4.1.1 from Gitco on Centos 5.7
x64, by default the MoBo have the IOMMU disable, I enable the feature
IOMMU = 64MB, save the bios settings, restart, turn off
