My current Samba version is: # smbstatus --version Version 4.7.7-Debian I can see that the Samba version that will be installed, when I upgrade from Stretch to Buster, will be the 4.11 since this is the current stable release... I would like to know if there are major changes

Upgrading samba on Buster
Hai Tom, All packages where possible will get this security update. Im working from latest versions and OS down. It only take a bit more time to build them all and test them. But builds are running. If you want to do this upgrade yourself, this one is pretty easy. # Enable my repo and the sources. apt update apt source samba # This gets the older version. # And the new version wget

Hai, Sorry for the late reply. Here its just apt-get distupgrade --autoremove --purge Without the autoremove libldb1 is not removed so libldb2 can be installed. Ah, ok, apt-get remove libldb1 ldb-tools Then try again : apt install samba winbind acl The replacement of libldb1 to libldb2 is missing something. I'll have a look at that. ldb errors after upgrade, cause?
L.P.H. van Belle via samba writes: > Is samba-dsdb-modules installed ? Yes, I checked again, and all packages are installed, all of them with the proper version, and no leftovers. This server works fine for a half a day, and then these errors happen, so I think it's unlikely that it's related to the install itself. I have already made a backup of all tdb files with tdbbackup and

ldb errors after upgrade, cause?
Hi! recently we upgraded a Debian jessie server to Debian buster, with Samba being upgraded from 4.5.12 (+dfsg-2+deb9u3) to 4.9.5 (+dfsg-5+deb10u1). A few hours later we saw these errors in syslog: smbd[26024]: [2020/02/03 11:13:13.631613, 0] ../lib/ldb-samba/ldb_wrap.c:79(ldb_wrap_debug) smbd[26024]: ldb: Failure during ltdb_lock_read(): Locking error ? 4.9.x -> 4.10.x : any major things to consider?
yes, I read https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.10.0.html and http://downloads.van-belle.nl/samba4/Upgrade-info.txt - Are there any particular things to consider when upgrading from 4.9.x to 4.10.x ? Talking of 2 DCs and 2 DMs here, debian-based. I assume it's better to only do the step to 4.10.x first and not to 4.11.x ? At first the DMs, then one DC ... ? thanks for any

Plans for buster
Knorrie and I just discussed our plans for sid and buster, on the phone. Here's my notes of the discussion. Plan is to upload Knorrie's 4.11 packages to experimental, to make them more public, while we fix the bugs in them. There's a list of Salsa issues and the BTS bugs list. This duplication is not ideal. We agreed that new things should go to the BTS. For now we'll keep

general question: mixed releases
I am currently upgrading several Debian servers from stretch (9.x) to buster (10.x). At that site we run 2 DCs (so far samba-4.10.x) and 2 DMs (one 4.10.x, one 4.11.x since yesterday) I assume it's not wrong or problematic to mix releases and have DMs on 4.11 and DCs on 4.10 ? Anything to consider here? Is it preferrable to upgrade the DCs first (4.10 -> 4.11) or do the DMs first (as I
