Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ (extra part 4.8.1 samba)
So, I'm curious about the contrast between modifying netplan vs simply disabling systemd.resolved Is there some advantage to the gyrations to make netplan work, vs simply disabling resolved and manually defining the IP and DNS server? [I'm not complaining, I'm thankful for all the options - just wanting to have the best handle possible on the reasoning behind one method vs the other.]

Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ
Hai, @Rowland. Yes yes, you did say you hate systemd. :-) I had a hard(er)time on this one also but i got passed it. ;-) But you and everybody else on the list, please review this setup. And a very big thank you Rowland for the start of it. This should be a good base to start with as howto for ubuntu 18.04 systemd based. Any suggestion additions please add them, below is also the order

RSAT Hang
So, I setup Samba on Ubuntu 18.04, using the packaged Samba version. [Thanks Rowland/Louis et al.] I'm doing some testing/tinkering using FreeNAS as a share, using the AD as the authentication back-end. As part of that process, you need to add a computer account and change some security settings. I setup RSAT and can see the AD tree, and add users etc. When I try to switch to advanced view

DC disaster recovery
So, I'm generally running my DC's in VM's on Xen [XCP-NG]. And I'm considering recovery from different disaster situations - say a crashed/corrupt DC. Or hardware failure. Yes, I could run a second VM with a second DC. But unless I setup another XCP server and put the VM on that - the biggest threat to the current VM/DC is the hardware it's running on. So, it really

Louis; re:your repo and Ubuntu 18.04
So, Louis - I'm quite interested in using your repo for Samba support on 18.04. You note there's some detail on it on the github site - but I don't seem to find it. Also - while I know it's all just best intentions etc - is this something you intend to do for a while? [I'd be glad to toss some $$$ your way to help, if that's helpful. I'd toss some bucks to SerNet - but

No DNS domain configured
Hai marco, Well, "My" preffered for now is systemd-networkd. Current debian still used /etc/network/ but next will be systemd as default. Ubuntu uses : /etc/netplan/ Howto configure it. wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/thctlo/debian-scripts/master/setup-systemd-networkd.sh bash setup-systemd-networkd.sh member Nothing will be changed on the system but you end up with a

Problems setting up samba bind9_dlz on Ubuntu 18.04
Hi, I hope someone can help me with the following problem. I followed the following guides to setup samba as an additional active directory server to my windows server with bind9 dns: https://www.tecmint.com/join-additio...r-replication/<https://www.tecmint.com/join-additional-ubuntu-dc-to-samba4-ad-dc-failover-replication/>

DC disaster recovery
Yeah, I could setup an extra XCP box - but at smaller setups, it really seems like overkill. So, it sounds like restores of the VM work "fine." How often do machine accounts reset their passwords? [This is the one that is most likely to be problematic. Rejoining the domain means a new profile. And that's a big PITA on the client side.] User password changes can simply be handled by
