RHEL7/Centos7 with Samba AD
Hi All, I know RHEL has bad press here but I'd like to share a different opinion (works for me) and maybe share some of my settings. BTW, Those views are my own, not those of my employer. I run a small AD at home. The setup is as follows: - two AD DCs (RHEL7.6 KVM virtual machines + Samba 4.8.7 rpms based on SPECs from TranquilIT/Fedora). - several Win10 laptops joined to the domain. -

cutting corners (4.10.2 on el7.6)
Hi All, I'm not well versed in the samba code base so I'm asking here.. :) I only wanted to run a small AD/DC for my SOHO (1 spouse, 3 kids, 1 dog & 1 cat). I've managed to build 4.10.2 on rhel7.6 with gnutls-3.3.29 and python-2.7. (this required an updated cmocka, which in turn required an updated cmake) but... building without testsuite and without clustering (ctdb) allows

Samba 4.8.11 for rhel7/centos7 rpms
Hi everyone, In case anyone's interested, I've posted the rpm builds of samba 4.8.11 that I'm using on RHEL7.6. (I run these in VMs, serving as AD DCs for my SOHO). Comments most welcomed. http://nova.polymtl.ca/~coyote/dist/samba/samba-4.8.11 If you're on RHEL7/Centos7, you've got several repos to choose from: http://azzurro.ezplanet.net/el7

About support for AMD ROME CPUs
Hi, all We use AMD Rome CPUs, like EPYC 7452. RHEL said that RHEL 7.6.6 began to support these cpus(detials: https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/amd) , but we found that CentOS7.6 with kernel 3.10.0-957.21.3.el7.x86_64 also works fine. So, my questions are: 1) Is there any place that i can find the cpu support info? 2) Dose the kernel 3.10.0-957.21.3.el7.x86_64 from CentOS7.6 already

Confidence interval for binomial variance
Based on simulations, I've come up with a simple function to compute the confidence interval for the variance of the binomial variance, where the true variance is v = rho*(1-rho)/n where rho = true probability of success and n = # of trials. For x = # successes observed in n trials, p = x / n as usual. For p < 0.25 or p > 0.75, I use the proportion-based transformed confidence

Wrong SEs in predict.lm(..., type="terms")
predict.lm(..., type="terms") gives wrong standard errors. Below, I have provided what I believe are the necessary fixes. However, there are subtleties, and the code needs careful checking. Some of the looping is surely not necessary, but it is surely best to begin with the minimum necessary changes. My tests, including checks against S-PLUS, have extended to fitting spline curves. I

I submitted this earlier to r-help. There is one change below to my proposed corrected code: predict.lm(..., type="terms") gives wrong standard errors. Below, I have provided what I believe are

(part 2) Can samba map between existing Windows (SID) users and existing unix (UID) users
I have had a few replies and it looks that I am on a no win solution. I either set up LDAP and delete local UID on our UNIX boxes and let samba convert SID to UID, or just leave thinks as they are. I still don't under stand why it is so difficult to do what I want when all the information seems to be at hand. 1) User changes security of a file on a samba share to allow DCSNT\andrew access.

[Bridge] Problem with Routed mode using br2684ctl tool
Hi, I am writing this email in sincere hope that somebody experienced similar/same problem and found solution to it. The classical bridge setup could be achieved using brctl tool, which could be found at: http://home.regit.org/br2684.html I have an ADSL CO line card Linux based [2.4.24 kernel] with 8 nas interfaces and eth0. Rather than having bridge, the decision was to have a router, which

Can samba map between existing Windows (SID) users and existing unix (UID) users
Hi again, This is a follow up to a previous e-mail, but no luck so I have done some more digging. I don't understand why it is so difficult to map between a existing user on a Windows Server (SID) and an existing user on a Unix/Solaris (UID) user, since all information is available? unix# /usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo -n andrew S-1-5-21-1984182827-583073959-8547516-2056 User (1) unix# tail

There is probably some amount of redtape on this but AFAIK it works fine for me: My RHEL7.6 hypervisors are joined to my AD DC 4.10.4 VMs through use of realm '(and thus sssd): Here's a RHEL7.6 client: # realm list ad.lasthome.solace.krynn type: kerberos realm-name: AD.LASTHOME.SOLACE.KRYNN domain-name: ad.lasthome.solace.krynn configured: kerberos-member server-software:

using winbind to map existing unix to AD users
On our campus, we have an AD forest. Our particular department has a number of samba servers that authenticate to one tree of that AD forest. All of our users have accounts in LDAP for unix and AD for windows. We don't want/need winbind for authentication. However, we would like the ability of setting ACLs on the samba server from windows clients. So, I assume I need a mapping of unix
