Searching Samba share file contents
Hello Samba listers Is there a way to search Samba share file contents from the Windows client explorer? This works on Windows shares. I can't seem to get a hit on this on Google .. Wsearch
Hi Noel, As we discussed on the list, I busy getting the bits and pieces in place to be able to test your windows search work. I am running all my stuff on Debian Bullseye, with Samba code in 3 lxc-containers. Two are for the DCs, one is the fileserver. Everything is managed by Ansible code, I try to avoid manual changes to my environment(s) as much as possible. Generally manual changes are

I've just noticed the Omega "opensearch" template seems to lack escaping for URLs in <link> tags: $httpheader{Content-Type,application/xml}<?xml version="1.0"?> <rss version="2.0" xmlns:openSearch="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearchrss/1.0/"> <channel> <title>Xapian search results</title>

Batch, recursive Flac to Ogg converter for Windows
For those of you who, like me, want to keep a Flac-based archive of their CD collection, but maintain an Ogg-encoded version of that library for use on portable players, here is something you might be interested in: I've put together a Cygwin/perl-based solution that works under Windows XP that can take an entire tree of Flac-encoded files: C:\music\flac\artist1\album1\track1.flac

question about --bwlimit=
I am doing some benchmarking of rsync. I am using the --bwlimit= option to throttle down rsync to predict its operation over slow communications links. I am using rsync 2.6.2 from the release site without any patches. I downloaded the release rather than pull from the CVS tree. I have 2 servers "wilber" (the remote archive) and "judy" (the local archive) connected with a gig

Increasing database size limit
Hi Volker, First I apologize for very late reply. I did tests in the meantime... Trust relationships are the option we keep in mind. As trusts are for now bidirectional-full-trust they give us possibility to increase domain size. If we have to split our domain we will split in one domain for users and another for computers (meaning users' MS Windows computers as they need to be included into

I don't think I've ever said this but I am very envious of all these people who had loads of work due to Y2K or were paid obscene amounts of money to tend systems over new year's eve/day. I was working for an ISP at the time and got none of this. Nothing happened. I don't even recall

using RedHat binary packages?

For the sake of completeness, not everyone with legitimate access to RHEL binaries is necessarily a *paid* customer. Red Hat provides a free dev licence so anyone can legitimately access RHEL binaries (and source RPMs of course) for free,

Share inaccessible intermittently and often - restarting smb cures for short time
I just installed version 4.11.7 and the problem has gone away so either it's a bug or a new "feature" that we have to set some config setting to fix. I am still having the annoying issue with deleting thumbs.db files which I currently have on the other install as well. I'm not sure why there is a locking issue with these files but every time I try to delete a folder I get an
