Open Source Content Management System - Joomla
There was some discussion in the past about which one is the best
Content Management System that can be used in conjunction with Asterisk.
Mambo was supposed to be the best out there under GPL. The guys who
developed Mambo have a new product now - Joomla. I am using this and it
appears to be better than Mambo in many respects. Read the gist about
Joomla below.

user/password Authentication via Joomla database
Hello,
did anyone ever set up Authentication via lookups to a Joomla (mysql) database?
What I'd like to do is lookup Joomla users (who are in specific/multiple groups)
in the Joomla database and then fallback to /etc/passwd authentication to let
system users authenticate.
I'm running :
# 2.2.35 (b1cb664): /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# OS: FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-p10 amd64
Thanks

Off-Topic Mambo Vulnerabilities & Patches
On the Mambo CMS site there are vulnerabilities found. Whilst this is
not a CentOS problem, people rent/deploy servers (CentOS) on the net
with Mambo. A guy in one of the user forums on the net, had his Mambo
4.5.2 server hacked and they installed some interesting stuff in /tmp
. When a server is hacked it gives bad PR for the underlying OS.

mediawiki-1.4.7-1.2.el4.rf.i386.rpm requirements.
Guys,
I'm migrating an internal Mediawiki over to a new CentOS 4 system. The
old server's running FC3 and has a tarball install, ideally I want to
stick to properly packaged software as far as possible.

user/password Authentication via Joomla database
Hi,
I think there is no reason to be offlist.
Your setup should work, only problem could be the freebsd userid. My
setup has only one user for all accounts and no "real" users. I only
have a vmail user.
Maybe a tutorial for dovecot and mysql only would help you ( I don't
have a link here, but google has)
hope that helps

How do I install Joomla! 1.5?
Installing of Joomla! 1.5 is pretty easy. We assume you have set-up
your Web site, and it is accessible with your browser.
Download Joomla! 1.5, unzip it and upload/copy the files into the
directory you Web site points to, fire up your browser and enter your
Web site address and the installation will start.
For full details on the installation processes check out the

Rsync doesn't copy over only the changed files
Hello,
I am trying to sync up 2 directories over a network. I am running
Gentoo and on the new server I have a fresh install of Apache using
webapp-config to install the latest Joomla 1.5. On the other server I
have my backup copy of Joomla 1.5 also running the latest version. I
want to only copy over the files that are not in my new "fresh"
version AND only the files that have

php5 rpm to be installed in parallel with php4?
Hi,
I'm looking for a php5 rpm which I can install in parallel with php4. Therefore,
the centosplus rpm is (AFAIK) not usable for me as it replaces php4.
Does centos provide an php5 rpm which does not touch my php4? Is there a
matching srpm on web?
Sorry, if this question is a FAQ. Thanks for your help :)

Goodbye Windows?
Hi.
I know that Linux provides most of the softwares we need for business, equivalent of Outlook, MS Office, IE, ... but :
Is it realistic to think that we can delete Win XP, and use Wine with Linux, for a professional use, with :
- All Adobe, with the ICC profiles (I use Monaco EZcolor for the calibration).
- CMS like Joomla and a lot of plugs-in, and a few tools for webranking.
I hope the

How to pass POST variables to Ajax.Request
New to the group, and not sure I have the searching figured out yet so
let me know if this is already posted somewhere.
I am writing a Joomla Component that is loading phpbb (a forum) inside
a div of Joomla to avoid using IFRAMES. So in short I am using the
Ajax.Request call to read in the HTML then I parse thru and using gsub
change the default forum links so they pass thru this component

MultiLingual option for site with Rails
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a plugin or a code snippet, that would
translate the static content [possibly dynamic too] on the website for
the visitors coming from different geographical regions of the world.
In one of my earlier projects, I used the plugin on Joomla [CMS] that
auto translates the content.
Here is the site, the plugin is at the left bottom.

looking for a decent free / Open Source flash media server
Hi all,
I hope someone can help me with this one. I am looking for a decent
free / Open Source flash media server software which I can run on a
Linux server. Adobe's Flash Media Server
(http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/) is very expensive
and not within any reasonable cost range (R40K+).
The Fladh Media Server uses the RMTP

Hardened PHP? Suhosin patch?
Hi,
I'm running a few PHP-based apps on our server (PMB, SPIP, Joomla,
PHPMyAdmin), and I'm not always comforted about security. I don't know
the details, but many a security expert frowns when it comes to PHP.
Now I just stumbled over this:

Has anyone already tried this out? An opinion about it? Is it worth it?

PHP5 questions
If I install PHP5 from centosplus it will replace PHP4, is this correct?
Or is there a way to have it installed in parallel? I know I can't run
both modules at the same time, but I'd prefer having them installed in
parallel, so I can switch back/between easier.
When I try updating I get a dependency warning from php-eaccelerator (from
dag repo) - can I ignore that? Searching thru my

best way to upgrade php4 -> php5 on CentOS?
What is the best way to upgrade PHP4 to PHP5 on CentOS? I see from "rpm -qa"
that I'm running PHP-4.3.9.
Should I uninstall this old PHP4 package and then reinstall PHP5? Or is
there some cool yum upgrade thing I might run?
This is a VMware virtual box for testing, so I'm more concerned about
learning what to do, rather than interrupting anything.
