Specifing methods in a steps_for block
Hey list,
I''m refactoring some much-used functionality into a common_steps step
group. Methods like this are in there:
steps_for :common do
Given "a number of existing $types?" do |type|
@initial_item_count = type.singularize.classify.constantize.count
end
When "the user adds an invalid $type" do |type|

How much test data to use in specs
I''m not sure how much test data I should be using in my specs. I''m
writing specs for the Property model in my Rails app. Its "address"
attribute is going to be validated with this regex:
/\A\d+[a-z]? [-'', a-z]{2,128}\Z/i
At the moment, my plan is to spec out the following possibilities. A
property is invalid if its address:
1) doesn''t begin with

What is Radiant?

Radiant is a no-fluff, open source content management system designed
for small teams. It is similar to Textpattern or MovableType, but is a
general purpose content management system (not a blogging engine).

I am pleased to announce the release of Radiant 0.5.1 Gemdust:

Any CMS for Ruby on Rails..
Well i want to make a photography community site on the lines of
www.gfxartist.com , www.terminus1525.ca, www.phirebrush.com
Where the community votes for every subbmission from a artist and can
comment (like a forum)..
Now gfxartist has used probably SMARTY,php, and their own CMS.
terminus used Drupal,Gallery 2.Some one tells me that this combo is
heavy on resources and slows down sites.

new to rails... suitable for what I wanna do?
Hi,
I have created and now maintain the website ratsdeville.com (http://
ratsdeville.com/index_e.html for english) for my brother. He creates
more and more content for it each week and I''m seriously feeling the
pain now archiving everything manually and making sure that links
works once items are archived (which I lost control of).
Like you can see, it is basically a news site about art

Optimization in R
Hi all,
I've been working on improving R's optim() command, which does general purpose
unconstrained optimization. Obviously, this is important for many statistics
computations, such as maximum likelihood, method of moments, etc. I have
focused my efforts of the BFGS method, mainly because it best matches my
current projects.
Here's a quick summary of what I've done:

summation sign
Hi all,
I have a very quick question on how to use the summation sign in R for the
function.
Here?s a basic example: the function is sum(i=1 to 5)log(1-xi^2)
Id be grateful if someone knows how to do this without writing it out 5
times - I am looking sth along the lines of the following:
computeR <- function(x)
{
return (-sum(log(1-x^2))
}^
thank you vm in advance!

rake features and cucumber feature/name not producing same result
Hi all.
If I run rake features or cucumber features/* I get one failing FIT scenario
in one of my features.
If I then run that feature that contains the FIT table with the failing
scenario manually, it passes.
I run it again with rake features or cucumber features/* it fails, run
individually, it passes.
Obviously some state is carrying over between the features.
Any idea where i would start

Content Management System
I am looking for a good CMS based on Rails that has at least these
attributes:
1. Ease of use ( as it will be used by people who are not html literate)
2. Very easy/flexible to change layout.
So far I have looked at
http://rcms.oopen.de/Home/ (have not installed it yet)

"Why not MockEverthing" or why use fixtures for all tests?
Hello fellow RSpec users.
Before you all start warming up your flame throwers please let me
explain my Subject line.
I''ve been working over 4 months on a large Rails project with a few
other developers. Test coverage was spotty at best, though they
*were* RSpec tests. One of the other developers and I had started
adding more tests, mostly controller tests using the methodology

cannonical open source rails apps?
What do you think are the best examples of open source rails apps?
I keep a copy of typo trunk around just to look at the code to see
how they''ve solved a problem. Do you know other apps that you
consider particularly well written?
Thanks

A challenge from a CMS implementer
Hey guys
RoR evangelists keep telling us that they have the #1 framework for
developing webapps. OK, but show us something that works and is useful
to many people out there. I could be wrong, but it doesn''t seem as if
there is anything that qualifies, as yet?
So I''ve got a little challenge for you: come up with a decent plugin
WYSIWYG visual editor for CMS. There are several

Selenium/Watir usage along side Webrat in story testing
This is related to Selenium/Watir usage along side webrat in story
testing.
MHS_Testing and Rspec-ui provide some great help for testing through
frameworks like Selenium/Watir.
But there is something missing, Webrat has changed the landscape
somewhat with Acceptance Tests/Story Driven development.
Now I have a choice:
1. Tests and rails process run as one test process (Webrat)
2. Use

Any plans for Before-feature or Before-all steps in Cucumber?
Hi
The code I''m working on now is a server daemon that talks to Twitter,
an RSS feed, and some web pages. I''ve got mock implementations of
Twitter and the web stuff, which I start and stop with
daemon_controller[1]. I do all the setup in a Before block, but this
makes the feature runs agonisingly slow due to the time waiting for
everything to restart. I''m

mongrel & apache on Win32
I am thinking about migrating a Java based Web Application to Ruby &
Rails. Before I start the work I need more information about the runtime
environment.
I am forced to use Windows 2003 Server and I need SSL. My Java Web Apps
all run on Apache 2.x with any of the many J2EE App Servers (Tomcat,
Geronimo, etc...) an Windows without any problems.
From reading the mongrel web-site I

I''m working on writing features for a wizard. The wizard collects
information from a number of different forms, and you can navigate through
it in a number of ways. Anyhow one of these forms is a customer form

In the context of the wizard I feel that the following scenarios

Testing the flash.now
What''s the best way to test the flash when you use flash#now ? For
example, if I set the flash in my controller:
flash.now[:notice] = ''This will only show up on this action.''
How do I test it? Normally I would do:
assert_equal ''This will only show up on this action.'', flash[:notice]
But this doesn''t seem to work with flash.now.
