[mntent]: line x in /etc/fstab is bad
Hi !
I'm having trouble trying to mount a win2k share from my linux box
with the mount command.
My linux box is a RH 7.2 and samba version is 2.2.4.
It is part of the windows domain 'VALBONE' and the smb.conf option
"winbind use default domain" is set to yes.
So when the user slautier log into the machine, it does it without
specifying the domain name.

tools: specify datadir for qemu-xen build to fix firmware loading
qemu-xen does currently not find the firmware files, such as
vgabios-cirrus.bin. The reason is that qemu-xen uses the default prefix
/usr/local.

SMB gurus: please help - I am desperate.
I apologize up front for re-posting this, but I need
to find a solution to this problem. I have been having
hard time to believe that there isn't one person among
the SMB gurus that doesn't know how a W2K client
connects to an SMB server. So, if you happen to know
even the slightest hint to this baffling problem, I
would be forever grateful.

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba
share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried
connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using
smbclient:
smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn
The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH
FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation:
\\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box)

Trouble managing ACLs from Windows
Hello list,
following the guidance from here
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs)
I have set up a file server which is member of a Samba 4.6.9 AD domain.
I have created ACLs using a Windows client with a domain admin account.
While I have no issues with some folders, the server denies access to
others to users that should have access by means of group

WARNING you cannot build info or html versions of the R manuals
Ah yes, those. Replace the rpm -Uvh with yum update and it should resolve the dependencies for you. If that fails, just pass all of those deps (in "") to yum install.
Sorry about that!

Expected behaviour of domain\administrator on Linux AD domain member
Dear all,
I have set a small test domain in virtualbox.

2. Samba domain member Debian Stretch 4.10.14
3. Windows 10 Enterprise evaluation version 1909
Roaming profiles with folder redirection setup.
PAM working.
The above was setup basically using guides in wiki.samba.org, with nearly
the only thing changed was SAMDOM to SAMBA. "Unix

Retaining Permissions on a share
Hi guys,
I have sernet-samba-ad-4.1.21-11.el6.x86_64 and I keep getting an issue
whereby I reset the folder permissions to default by doing...
setfacl -R -k --remove-all HR
setfacl -d -R --remove-all HR
chown -R root:root HR
chmod -R 777 HR
Then via my AD MMC Computer management, connect to server, then sharing, I
have user A and B part of a group called HR-Users, and I have the group

[PATCH 0 of 1 v2] tools: honour --libdir when it is passed to ./configure
I''ve removed all the LIBLEAF bits in this version, but kept passing
the libfsimage plugin location via compiler command line.
If there''s a better way to do this, I''m certainly open to it. But
looking at it further today I think this isn''t too horrible.

pam_mount and winbind
Hi !
Has anybody already managed to make pam_mount and winbind working
together ?
I'm running a linux 7.2 box with samba 2.2.4.
I use winbind for user authentication from a win2k server (DEDALE in
domain VALBONE).
The following command works fine:
$ smbmount //DEDALE/SHAREDIR \
/mnt/smb/dedale/sharedir/ -o \

make uninstall can delete xen-kernels
Nice time.
# make uninstall
...
rm -rf //boot/*xen*
...
if somebody use "xen" in kernel name (maybe as suffix), so it will be deleted from /boot/ too.
Thanks.

Problems connecting to Samba Server
I installed Samba (bbf format) on AIX 4.3.2 for the first time. The client
is NT 4.0(SP 5).
I am able to connect to the tmp share name. Also, after a few attempts I
was able to connect to another share name that requires a password. When I
powered on my PC the next day, I was asked to enter the network password, I
did. I typed the username and password but it was rejected. Next I tried

Getting the name of an object as character
This could be really trivial, but I cannot find the right function to get
the name of an object as a character.
Assume we have a function like:
getName <- function(obj)
Now if we call the function like:
getName(blabla)
and 'blabla' is not a defined object, I want getName to return "blabla". In
other word, if
paste("blabla")
returns
"blabla"

SIMPLE smb.conf file
Hi,
I have been trying to get SWAT to work so I can configure it using a
GUI. But as you can see on my last message, no luck.
I have tryed what seems like hundreds of different configuration schemes
using smb.conf and cannot seem to get things right. Here is the
situation :
Local network, internet on a router/firewall. two winXP machines, two
win98 machines. No domain authentication, simple
