AD across sites
Hi Rowland, Let?s say due to number of machines involved, it is not practical to drop them off the NT4 domain all at once. We are thinking are two possible options - VLAN the ports and only allow certain machines to talk to serverb - Or use the host deny and host allow in smb.conf, example Host allow 10.10.10.5 Host deny 10.10.10.0 Preferably the second one Other questions If we have bind9

Recursive file hieararchy with order precedence
Hello, Consider the following; You have a number of sites, all controlled by puppet. You have identified which files that are common to every host, and then which files are common to any particular site. Finally, you have the files which are private to the node in question. What I was wondering was if it would be possible to have some sort of directory hierarchy which has some kind of

Numeric ids
HI, I had read from the rsync man page on transferring files using the user's numeric id and gid. I have a user which resides on 2 remote sites, having the same user names, but different uid and gid on both sites. I'm transferring the files as a root user. site A site B ----------------------------------------------- usr_A usr_A uid = 100 uid = 200 file1(usr_A)

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 with Active Directory at many sites
First, background information. We are a large (geographically local) organization with 50 sites, including our HQ. Each site has a Debian Server running Samba in NT-Domain Controller mode. Each site is independant of the next, but are all named <SITE>.example.com. The workstations are connected, and working fine in our sites with the single servers. We had a recent network upgrade that now

Custom fact errors
I''m a newbie attempting to get a custom fact distributed to clients. I''ve followed the instructions at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/AddingFacts and based my first fact on a simple recipe. I''m having at least one problem and possibly more. 1) Puppet/facter fails to load the custom fact, complaining that "non- sh interpreters are not currently

Problem with ADS idmap backend
I'm running Samba 3.0.28a on a CentOS 3.9 box as a member of an AD domain whose PDC is a W2k3 server (Standard x64 R2 SP2). Using wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g I can see domain users and groups from the CentOS box, but getent (passwd|group) fails to display them. The nsswitch is setup correctly, as far as I can tell. When I tail -f the samba log file during a getent query, I see that winbindd is

file sizes different even after successful rsync
Is it even remotely possible that after a successful rsync, the file sizes on both ends are different ??? We use rsync extensively to distribute our builds across all our development sites. Here is how our rsync process works 1. SiteA creates a build #1 2. SiteB rsync's build #1 3. SiteA creates a build #2 4. SiteB rsync's build #2 using contents of build #01 (i.e. we rsync build #02

smb_lookup error=-13
I am experiencing an odd problem while attempting to mount and access a directory with smbfs. smbclient does not exhibit the same behavior. I have created a directory /mnt/smb-test and am attempting to mount a volume from a NetApp Filer running OnTap 7 with NTFS security mode. An Active Directory DC handles security for the share. The Linux machine shows as registered in AD and I can use

Specifying geographic related facts
Let''s say I have two different geographic sites. They are pretty much identical ie. each site has a machine called web1 which is a web server, etc. Except there are couple site-specific settings ie. outgoing DNS servers are different, SSL certs are different etc. On the puppetmaster I can put in a file called e.g. /etc/sideid which would uniquely identify a site ie. siteX or siteY.

I've got 2 asterisk servers on the same box: ubuntu 10.04 lucid. I have not been able to send useful callerid info between them (callerid becomes "serverB"). serverA register statement: (serverB has the exact opposite statement) register => serverA:serverApassword at IP_of_serverB_nic/serverB users.conf of serverA: users.conf of serverB: [serverB] [serverA] type=friend

How to backup files without destroying the destination?!
Hello List, i would like to copy/mirror/rsync the backup files from ServerA to ServerB. Since i must assume that ServerA is hacked (public server with a few services), i would like to "pull" the files to ServerB (save server with no services). That means i do something like: rsync -avz ServerA:/backup ServerB:/backup IF ServerA gets hacked and the files get zeroed out (every file
