Windows 2012 server as a member?
You can add windows server 2012 to samba 4 domain as a domain member
(without AD DC role) without any issues. I myself have added multiple
windows 2012, 2012r2 and 2016 member servers without any issues. And,
what's important, You actually DON'T want to make them DC, because of
what Rowland just wrote.
Regards,
Kacper.

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello,
I've been setting up new file server using samba 4.8.3 (centos 7 RPM),
as samba 4 AD member server using my earlier smb.conf when I realised
that I was previously somewhat circumventing the
SeDiskOperatorPrivilege by using "admin users map" to SAMDOM\Domain
admins" parameter in smb.conf.
I decided to change my smb.conf and setup shares following samba wiki.

Windows 2012 server as a member?
Roland,
It has been suggested that the program can run on W10 dedicated
workstation. Acting as a Access database server. That statement gave me the
idea that why could it not just be W2012 server and IT be the workstation
OS. (But, they also said it is more efficient on W2012.) I am still
weighing my options.
Kacper,
Your statement backs up the information that I am "gleaning" from

kerberos + winbind + AD authentication for samba 4 domain member
Hello,
I'm setting up AD user logins for centos 7.4 box. I've almost managed to
do everything the way I want and the way I think it should be, but I'm
missing last piece:
For ssh access I read parts of the
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/OpenSSH_Single_sign-on
Most docs recommend using setting in smb.conf:

kerberos + winbind + AD authentication for samba 4 domain member
Hello,
Thank You for fast response. I'm glad that it's a mistake somewhere on
my side, it means it will work when I fix it :)
Ok, first of all:
Everything is on centos 7.4
All config files will be below, but to start off: behaviour is stranger
than I thought, but there is a pattern:
when doing
[DOMAIN\kacper_wirski at vs-files ~]$ kinit -V

Windows 2012 server as a member?
A conclusion to this episode. In the end W2016 Essentials became
problematic, in that when installed, it "demands" to become the ADDC
controller. Yes, it is possible to remove all the ADDC controller "stuff"
and make it a W2016 Essentials domain member server but, that removal
process was complicated, to say the least.
W2019 Essentials is a stripped down, use as a domain

password less share not accessible with Win 2012 R2
Hi!
We have a Samba 4.2.11 running with some browsable and passwordless
shares (among others).
Various Clients work fine (Windows Server 2008 R2, Konqueror Version
4.13.3), but Windows 2012 R2 asks for a password, when typing
\\samba.our-domain.de\ in the adress bar.
I tried various settings google gave me, right now the config for the
share looks like:
[test]
path = /var/tmp

Unable to upload printer drivers
Hi all,
i get struck with nearly the same problem as here :
https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2016-December/205088.html
excepted the NT_ error.
And the thread ends suddenly without solution. And i tested all that
Louis and Rowland proposed.

Debian stretch : samba 4.5.12 (debian package), also tested with 4.6.7
and 4.6.8 (Louis

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello,
Since nobody picked this up I will try to answer myself (hopefully
correctly).
I think I just misread documentation on wiki, but I would really
appreciate a clarification. In the wiki it states:
"To enable other accounts than the domain administrator to set
permissions on Windows, grant |Full control| (|rwx|) to the user or
group you granted the |SeDiskOperatorPrivilege|

Samba4 computers not on W10 Network
My Samba4 computers (DC's & member server) are not shown within W10 File
Explorer Network. Only the other workstations appear.
I believe this is due to smb1 being depreciated.
All the folder redirection still works, gpo, etc. Domain users can log in.
What do I need to adjust so these machines appear in smb2?
(I know this has been talked about before sorry.)

creating and copying users
This topic may have been discussed many times, sorry to repeat here.
I have been trying various combinations of adding test users via ADUC. The
first three (3) added fine. Then the strange began. Many, many W10 client
re-starts throughout these process to make client capture any changes from
servers.
In one case, create the user, give him/her a password. Login from W10
client. Logout of W10

Changes to Folder Redirection
I am having some issues that I believe might be related to folder
redirection that has prompted me to review my folder redirection GPO
settings.
On the "Configuring Windows Profile Folder Redirections" page of the
Samba WIKI I find an 'information box' that says, /"//Windows does not
support dynamically-generated user home folders provided by the Samba
[homes] section.

creating and copying users
Rowland,
I remember now, you and I have been here before and I have lost the email.
Due to the manner that linux handles backslashes "\" users need to
backslash *around* the backslash you need for W10 like so, "\\\\FQDN" to
get "\FQDN" on the W10 path?
Therefore, the following is what I want:
"--profile-path=\\dtmbr04.ad.dtntwk.work\profiles\sttest11
