libpam-smbpass
Hai,
Its not anymore in debian package, its in samba now as far i can tell, i think, 4.2 was the latest that had this.
But `man smb.conf` and search for `unix password sync` That should give more info.
Ps. Upgradeing debian 8 to 9 and samba, read :
http://downloads.van-belle.nl/samba4/Upgrade-info.txt
Almost every part where it might go wrong, when upgrading from 4.2 is in this file.

[Fwd: Winbind under 3.0
I posted this plea for help last week, but received no responses, so I
figured I'd re-send. Since posting this message I upgraded to 3.0
stable using the package posted on the samba.org site, and the behavior
remains the same. I should also mention, if I try smbclient -U guest
and enter an empty password, I can successfully get a browse list fromt
the server. Is there an increased

Compiling smbpass.c
Hello All,
I've been trying to compile samba-1.9.18p4 for the last couple of hours
and seem to keep running into problems compiling smbpasswd. I'm running
Slackware 3.4
Here's last section I tried to use from the Makefile:

Password Syncing
Hello,
Is there a way to sync the Unix password database with Samba's
database? I know that Samba is able to update the Unix database if a
user changes their password via smbpasswd, but what if a user changes
their Unix password with passwd?
I looked into libpam-smbpass, but it didn't seem to work; the
documentation was rather sparse, so I just overwrote my

This is broken (and insecure) behaviour.
We are seeing erratic behaviour from Samba for connecting Unix

Suddenly wine has a problem
Wine has been working perfectly over the last few months, and suddenly today I seem to be having this problem when I have not modified anything since the last time I sued wine.
I should also point out, I have made no configuration changes to wine to cause this issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix the problem. Thanks

Samba shares not refreshing in Windows after upgrade
I'm working with Samba on Ubuntu. We recently upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 and
with it Samba 3.6.3 to 4.1.6 (Version: 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.14.04.3).
Since the upgrade, the mapped network drives on Windows do not refresh the
shared files. It maps to the location without any problems and you can look
at the content of the share. If you exit the window and then create a new

This bug has a long history since 4.1.6 and I can confirm with 4.2.1
I've isolated to the line:

Configured in /etc/pam.d/common-auth
That line is added by libpam-smbpass package installation and also by using
pam-auth-update to enable SMB Password Synchronization

The answer is on the Slackware CD Rom - read /contrib/gcc2721.README.
Apparently it's a bug wih this version of gcc, and the previous version is
on the CD as a work-around.

Derek

new user question
Hi all,
I have installed samba on both BSDI 3.1 and Linux. I have been having
trouble compiling on linux so I got a binary form and installed it. So far
all seems to work except the password keeps getting rejected when trying to
map a drive. It is happening in both the linux version and BSDI. I am
loging into windows with the same user/pass as my unix account and am
trying to map a drive it

Error while compliling
Hi, Please help me resolve this problem.
While compiling samba-1.9.18p8, I got this message:
cc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
make: *** [smbpass.o] Error 1
I have re-edited the Makefile, and recompiled several times. Each time I
got the same error message, at exactly this same spot.
Is this a problem with my gcc compiler? which the message seems to
imply.
But I have

Compile problems in Slackware
Hi there.
Has anyone experienced problems when compiling Samba? I always get stuck
with an "internal compiler error" at the file smbpass.o.
The system is Slackware 3.4.0 (still the current release), with
kernel 2.0.33 and GCC 2.7.2.3, I checked it with Samba 1.9.18p8 and 1.9.18p7.
How to get the error:
Install Slackware 3.4.0
Extract samba-1.9.18p8.tar.gz

Bug on PAM_Winbind ?
Hello guys,
I am using PAM (0.82) to authenticate (samba) workgroup users and it works
fine (pam_smbpass). But after joining a domain and start using pam_winbind
too, pwauth (2.3.10) get a segmentation fault when trying to authenticate
any workgroup or domain user. What happens is that it does authenticate the
user successfully, but when it calls pam_end() to release its resources, it
crashes.
