cisco poe
I know this is on the wiki, I just want to confirm so I don't blow up my
cisco phones. I've got several cisco 7940's all running using cisco
power cubes. However, my boss wants me to switch just a few over to
poe, but doesn't want to fork out the dough for a nice cisco poe switch,
or anybody else's poe switch for that matter.
So my question is, what is the '99.999%

POE hub
I need to connect up to sixteen phones per building, I can use a cheap hub,
but POE would be useful. Is there a cheap POE hub available? Everything I
have seen has been expensive.

LAN switches with PoE? PoE phones?
Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations on ethernet switches for a new
install. Ideally would want switches with at least 24 ports,
ideally with a GE uplink, and that support PoE (power over
ethernet) on every port. I've seen lots of switches, and lots of
"power hubs", but the combination, which makes a lot of sense,
seems rare. What is out there? Do the switches need to be

POE
Hey guys,
I was wondering what POE solutions are being used ? Ive done some
searching on google and found that PowerDsine seems to be good brand.
Any comments, suggestions, and experiences on POE hubs other POE products
would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Power Over Ethernet for *any* ethernet switch (or hub); product idea
Based on several threads I've read on this list, I assume that it would be
handy to supply POE (power over ethernet) in an environment without having
to purchase POE switches (assumed expensive) and abandon one's existing
(familiar/custom/not-yet-expensed/etc.) switches/hubs.
Assume I have a non-POE switch with 24 RJ-45 (ethernet) ports. I design a
1U box that can be mounted just

Can you use Polycom 500 with PoE Switch?
Hi,
Do you need a special cable and power for that unit or you can run it of PoE

Thanks.

Polycom Power
I have a 501 with traditional power and a 301 with PoE. I rightfully assumed
that the traditional power from the 501 would work on the 301.
How do I get the PoE to work? Do I use the Polycom PoE cable in addition to
whatever PoE injection method I use? I have a Cisco PoE injector that works
on my Cisco AP350 and my 7960. No combination of this injector, the Polycom
cable, and the phone result in

Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to
include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE
injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around
$2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a
boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more
then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total

PoE switch recommendations?
Hey, all. We're rolling out VoIP, and I'm wondering about PoE
recommendations, as we're going to have to replace our current network
equipment. My first inclination would be to just plunk down the cash and
do a Cisco system, but I'm relatively certain that would get shot down by
finance. Any recommendations for a couple-hundred-port solution with
VLANs, PoE, and QoS? Don't

Slightly OT: SNOM & PoE
Hello All,
I apologize for the slightly off-topic question, but I'm sure that the
people best acquainted with the issue would be hanging around here.
We recently deployed several Linksys POE switches for some smaller customers
(10-24 station) and appear to be suffering from intermittent lock-ups of the
SNOM phones attached.
Obviously we are running Asterisk for the gateway, but I was

Linksys SRW224P POE Switch
We are currently considering the Linksys POE switch for a small Asterisk
office deployment. There will be no separate wiring closet to put it
in. Can anybody tell me if this switch has a loud fan? Users would not
be able to tolerate a loud noise close by. Otherwise we will go with a
fanless desktop switch.
Thanks,

Polycom 430 , 501 and 550
Hi List;
Can someone advise me if Polycom support H323 that
work fine with Asterisk? And wether this H323 Polcyom
devices more costly than SIP Polycom.
Also, I am not able to know if new Polycom come with
PoE adaptor so no need for PoE Switch (can use normal
switch that does not support PoE)? Do I need any
special cable for Polycom or normal Ethernet cable?

Recommendations for QoS, PoE Switches
Hi all,
For a top quality setup, I will need to install high quality VoIP switches
with QoS and PoE. My potential customer should not have any problem with
call quality. Experienced folks, Please advice me what switches to install
and at what price. I may need it for upto 100 phones. What else should I
consider so that phones work without problem along with the computers on the
same network?

D-LINK PoE switch, does it work with cisco or do I need to do the cable trick?
As an alternative to the "expensive" PoE switches out there, I found the
D-Link Web Smart DES-1316 switch for just around $400. Now, the issue
is, it does 802.3af power and, as I've found out through previous
discussions, this original 76?0 series phones (the non G variety) do not
use 802.3af. So I'm assuming I just need to use the special cable thing

[OT] switches
Pardon, this might be off-topic. I'm reading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch
For a setup of ~5 agents, would I be wrong in thinking that a generic 16
port unmanaged switch would fit the bill?
The first model to come up for me in an Amazon search is:
http://support.netgear.com/product/fs116
Is this a reasonable choice? Would I be wrong in thinking that most any
