File Permissions
I have been noticing an issue with file permissions and curious as to your thoughts on this. In the one directory the files started as... ...a 777 file was users[100] and root...now they are gc[1002] and fred_smith [1005], but the permissions changed to 764. I have a mask as 775, but this does not seem to be the case??? Here is my smb.conf...curious as to what I may have wrong on this???

Connecting with Windows 10???
Samba Guru's, As a point of clarification in our Samba setup... We are currently running Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu Server 16.04. When running smbstatus it shows the following... Windows 7 machines connect showing SMB2_10. Windows 10 machines connect showing Unknown (0x0311). Supposedly Windows 10 machines should show SMB3_11. Curious if they are connecting correctly and/or if changes

Problem with .hushlogin in Tru64 UNIX 4.0e
I have tried this with openssh-2.5.2p2 and openssh-SNAP-20010501. I have noticed that with a .hushlogin file in my home directory I still get messages. With the .hushlogin file I get these messages: Last successful login for ricardo: Tue May 1 08:06:00 2001 from blah.mnsu.edu Last unsuccessful login for ricardo: Tue May 1 08:05:21 2001 from blah.mnsu.edu Without the .hushlogin file I get

Permissions
Rowland, Thanks for the response. We are using win 7 on desktop pc's and Ubuntu 16.04 w/Samba. Do you have any sample config's for 'vfs_accl_xattr' for Windows. My issue may be more about file locking than permissions??? Corrected msg about Linux Mint 19.1 install
Apologies for some errors inserted by overly-helpful input filters on Thunderbird. Here's the corrected version. Just in case others hit the same glitch. It's not directly an R issue, but if folk can't get an install to work, they are not going to use R. While I've always had a straightforward experience before, this install gave some troubles. I added the repository deb

Installing onto Windows
Hello.  I am totally new to Samba. I would like to network 2 computers, Linux and Windows.I've looked over the install instructions but have no idea what it all means.I already have Samba in my Linux.  It detects the other computer's Windows but times out. Do I assume correctly that both computers need Samba to network them? What essentially do I do to install and use Samba in Windows 7?

Mongrel & Mint (PHP related)
Hi, Does anyone have the Mint stats package setup with their Rails application. I have uploaded Mint to the public folder, but when I try and request domain.com/mint/index.php the page is served as a download instead of being processed by mod_php. Im guessing this isn''t really a Mongrel problem but what I actually need to do is prevent Apache proxying certain requests to Mongrel.

Samba Samba and UFW
Louis, Did not mean to confuse. Before I upgraded to Mint 19.1 I could go to the network, click on windows network, click on workgroup, then office and the windows pc (office) would mount. No problems. THe folders on the windows machine would be accessed. Now in Mint 19.1 I get the error "Unable to mount location....". We traced this behavior to the UFW firewall blocking the

Hi, I''m attempting to migrate an app from Apache+FCGI to Apache+Mongrel. I''m using Apache 2.0 with the latest Mongrel release. I''m having an issue with the Mint stats package and Mongrel not picking up the following url: /mint/?js Basically inside the /mint folder there is an index.php, so the url /mint/?js should really be going to /mint/index.php?js When I had my
