Samba version 4.8.7, running on a FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE amd64 system with a ZFS file system. I have a Windows 10 machine configured to do automatic backups to my FreeBSD machine on a daily basis. Dovecot as LDA
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-p8 postfix-current-2.4.20060903,3 dovecot-1.0.r7 I am experiencing a problem with dovecot as an LDA. It will not deliver mail unless the mail directory is chmod'd to 1777. Below is an example of the log file output. The dovecot.log file had over a hundred entries similar to this: deliver(gerard): Error: open(/var/mail/.temp.scorpio.seibercom.net.1123.cd38cd4d82e1368f)

dovecot.log file permissions and ownership
Using FreeBSD-7.2 and Dovecot v1.2.4 what user does dovecot use to write to its log file? I have the logfile located in the /var/log directory. I have Postfix configured to use 'virtual' users and use dovecot for delivery. While dove can write to the file when accessed for POP services, when accessed via Postfix, I get this error message: Oct 25 07:02:15 scorpio postfix/pipe[56956]:

WoW and Zune
Since I can't find Microsofts Zune player on the vote list I'll just ask about this here. I'm new to Ubuntu Linux and the Wine program, and I'm slowly but surely learning more about linux every day. I finally got linux dual booted alongside windows XP to find that Wine has a list of supported programs. Zune isn't one of them, sadly. I like the way that the player works, runs,

static database config gui
I threw together a web gui for the static database configuration over the last couple of days. I built it using mod perl and the template toolkit. If enough people show an interest in this I'll put up a distribution, although it could take a few days. The interface is as generic as possible so you can throw pretty much any asterisk .conf file in and it works. The interface assumes you

SASL + Postfix woes
Okay, I wasn't going to try and fix up the messed up mail server I was given; however, I decided that I might as well try. Situation: The system has a Postfix MTA and uses Dovecot for LDA and Cyrus-SASL for SASL. That works fine. I decided that I wanted to switch over to Dovecot for SASL. dovecot is presently using MySQL for its database. I make the (I thought) necessary changes in Postfix
