Admin UID changed with upgrade to 4.8.2
In order to get help using a more up-to-date version of Samba, I've just upgraded from 4.4.16 to 4.8.2. So far, nothing new seems to be broken, but I still have to track down some issues I've been having. First off, I notice that something has changed with my BUILTIN\administrators ID. before, I had, e.g.: > ls -l

Imo, this is a left over of an old bug, just remove the file Registry.po imo, i'll bet its never used. The computer looks for Registry.pol not Registry.po. > -rwxrwx--- 1 root users 958 2014-09-13 04:01 Registry.po* > -rwxrwx--- 1 3000000 users 958 2014-09-13 04:01 Registry.pol* Look at the date 2014, and i do remember something about this. Are some Group Policies broken?
Not quite 4 years ago I replaced our office SBS 2008 server with Samba4. I added Group Policies one of which was for Redirected Folders. I created a new GPO, "HPRS Groups" and did Edit > User Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection > right-click on Documents > Properties > Target = Settings Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same

Domain Member Computer not showing in ADUC
I am running Samba 4.4.16 on Slackware64 14.2. I have a domain member Windows 7 workstation. I upgraded the hardware on this computer a couple of weeks ago. I deleted the computer from the domain, the re-joined after finishing the upgrade. Domain Member Server (wheezy) - Unable to edit permissions of share without usermapping - shall I add to Wiki?
Hello again Rowland, list! Sorry for the delayed response, and top posting. To recap: I'd like to complete the member server wiki so that ACLs can be set from windows without taking undocumented steps. The three ways I've found to do this are: 1) map root to administrator. (LPH VanBelle's script uses this option.) 2) chmod 0775 then chgrp "<DOMAIN>\Domain Admins"

getent problems with new Samba version
Would "testparm -v" show you the path of all the files used ? Are there any idmap settings? It looks like the newer version is using winbind to allocate uid's (based on the high ID numbers.) Maybe because it does not see uid's already allocated. The domain member may be showing correct id's because of caching. -----Original Message----- From: samba

Gaiseric, thanks for your response. the `testparm -v` gave me: private dir = /var/lib/samba/private So, I guess that means the sam.ldb in that directory is the one being used, not the one in /etc/samba/private. That helps.

getent problems with new Samba version
Sorry for the serial posting, but ... anxious ... I think there must be a bug in Samba 4.4.8, this all worked with 4.2.14. To summarize (details in attached messages), since upgrading from Samba 4.2.14 to 4.4.8, getent returns the wrong UID:GID. This is causing permission errors in programs like dovecot who try to read/write to Maildir files having the correct UID:GID. With 4.4.8 I now have
