[LLVMdev] BoF on Memory Safety, Debugging Tools, and Automated Defense
Dear All,
Just a reminder that we'll be having a Birds of a Feather (BoF) session
on memory safety, debugging tools, and automated defense at the LLVM
Developer's Meeting today at 2:45 pm.
If any of these topics interest you, please drop by! Santosh and I are
especially interested in learning about how others want to use memory
safety and related techniques.

dictionary attack defense
Does dovecot have any dictionary attack defenses yet?
In the past I have had to implement defense from outside dovecot, but
since dovecot is at the front lines and therefore is the first to know
I'm hoping by now there is something we can set. For example, a limit
on access failures per minut/hour/day or some such. If not why not?

Easiest defense against SQL injection in object creation?
I''ve been scouring the web for suggested Rails defenses against SQL
injection, but I haven''t found much on the object creation part.
Certainly using attr_protected, etc., is a good way to prevent unwanted
fields from being modified on the new object (if you''re passing a hash
as creation parameters), but what about escaping the POSTed info before
saving? Couldn''t

defense-in-depth possible for sshd?
If an attacker finds an exploit to take control of httpd, they're still
blocked in part by the fact that httpd runs as the unprivileged apache
user and hence can't write any root-owned files on the system, unless
the attacker also knows of a second attack that lets apache escalate its
privilege. Basically correct?
What about sshd -- assuming that the attacker can connect to sshd at

Well, 2.6.5 is from August 2012, so it's not the newest. And eventually, we would like people to switch to the shiny new nutdrv_qx driver which is in 2.7.1. But I'm pretty much guessing here

Recycling and keeping backups - Tower of Hanoi management of backups using rsync
Thanks to Kevin and Paul for responses.
We use a modified Tower of Hanoi scheme (on top of rsync and --link-dest
and recycling) for deciding which backups to keep.
Here is a sample of our holdings for one area:

It's a pretty fundamental design flaw, although it isn't uncommon among USB devices aimed at the Windows market, and to their credit, it does make implementation and deployment simpler on Windows.
Neither the FreeBSD
