Looking for a good, and secure, way to have users in a Samba AD environment be able to change their passwords without using a Windows domain member client or having local user or shell access to the AD system. Web based would probably be ideal, but I don't want some huge set of modules that do everything under the sun, just this one task. Possible? With what? Thanks! Chris

Hi, I don't know if the password check script is executed if you change the password using samba. You can simply test it: Download "LdapAdmin": http://www.ldapadmin.org Connect to your DC as a user. I'm in the process of setting up a Samba 4 PDC on Debian 8. I've set user passwords to expire after a day for testing purposes. When a user tries to log in when his password has already expired, he only gets a short "The user account has expired." message and then gets sent back to the username/password screen, effectively locking them out. Tested with Windows 10 and Windows 7.

Thanks for the help, however I don't think your suggestion applies in my case. On a fresh install of Samba 4.7.4 AD you cannot change a user password on a logged in PC through cntl-alt-del -> ChangePassword because the default MinAge is 1 days. I had to use the "samba-tool domain passwordsettings set --min-pwd-age=0" command to make the logged-on style of password change

Reading here i've understod that for LDAP query it is better to use SAMAccountName as 'login', but today i've found: https://docs.microsoft.com/it-it/windows/desktop/ADSchema/a-samaccountname so, 'SAMAccountName' is a compatibility field with NT mode, limited to 20 chars. Debian stretch, louis packages 4.9.16+dfsg-0.1~stretch~1 . After some time (roughly: two weeks) my DC with FSMO roles (seems that other DC are unaffected) goes suddenly on trash: memory jump from 50% (3GB) to 100%, container start to swap and slow down (load 10-15) al the phisical server.
