Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
You definetly need a TAP connection to make samba work over VPN. We use OpenVPN host2net-accounts created with IPCop here since quite a while and it works with samba without problems. However, the speed is of course not as fast as in local net, but this is rather related to the way the SMB-protocoll works. ;-) ________________________________________ Von: samba [samba-bounces at

DC Upgrade from 4.1.7 to 4.6.7
I did a similar DC upgrade from 4.1.13 to 4.6.6(like your option 1, upgrade on existing AD servers, I have two, first upgrade on none-FSMO). and I don't have any issues with the DC upgrade itself. But be careful with your member servers. After the upgrade, I have to change some default values on file servers: 1. samba 3.5.10 member server(rpm from CentOS 6.2) lost connection to samba

Slow ldap authentication against samba 4
hi everyone... somebody has experimented any problems with poor performance about ldap authentication against samba 4? I'm trying authentication with 300 users and many users can't login. Some conections are rejected. I doesn't found anything searching on internet. Any help? -- Grato, Jefferson Parreira dos Santos Emerick

DC Upgrade from 4.1.7 to 4.6.7
Hello all, Our Samba AD DC is running perfectly for years with the following basic setup (see smb.conf below) : - one DC running Samba 4.1.7 / CentOS 6.5 (compiled from sources) - internal DNS - this DC is also a Print Server - about 400 PC workstations (mainly win7 Pro / win10 Pro and some XP Pro), and about 300 users - several Synology NAS file servers

samba4 and sssd and user mapping
Hi everyone, on a server running samba4 with sssd for nsswitch mapping, I realized recently that on windows workstation in the "folder propery/security tab", users are mapped as "Unix user\userlogin" instead of "DOMAINNAME\userlogin". I guess this is due to the fact that sssd mapping with getent passwd gives me user name without domain name (eg. userlogin), and

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
openVPN with TUN connection works perfect here. I configured 2 TUN connections to connect two remote offices(over DSL line) to our main site without any issue. Here is my configuration: Main site: samba4 AD DC server1, plus a file server1, and a dedicated openVPN server site1: samba4 AD DC server2, plus a file server2, and a dedicated openVPN server with TUN connection to the main site

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
I can prove this within my environment: at the main site: one DC server(samba 4.1.13), one dhcp server, two DNS servers(forward AD query to two AD servers), at the branch site: one DC server(samba 4.1.13), one dhcp server, one DNS server(forward AD query to two AD server), DNSs on client machines point to the DNS servers(not point to the DC). The two DCs are synced and do their work properly

Problems with Userlogin to share
Hello, we have a Samba AD (AD Server: 4.9.5 / Fileserver: 4.10.11). On the Fileserver sometimes the Users are lost. wbinfo -u does not show any AD user. After restart winbind it works like expected. An other strange think is, that the kerberos ticket is not updated. Smb.conf fileserver: security = ADS workgroup = FOO realm = FOO.EXAMPLE.COM log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log

Samba winbind on redhat 7
Yes, I have only one domain. Even after added "winbind use default domain = yes" to smb.cnf, I cannot ssh : /Jun 21 12:43:59 [localhost] sshd[5938]: pam_sss(sshd:auth): Request to sssd failed. Connection refused// //Jun 21 12:43:59 [localhost] sshd[5938]: pam_krb5[5938]: TGT verified using key for 'host/mysambserver at MYDOMAIN.LOCAL'// //Jun 21 12:43:59 [localhost]

Samba winbind on redhat 7
Hello, I am facing 2 issues now. The first one is the more critical for me... 1. When I switch from sssd to winbind with : # authconfig --enablekrb5 --enablewinbind --enablewinbindauth --enablemkhomedir --update My sftp access did not work. Does it change the way to pass the login ? I used to connect in sftp with userlogin / userpassword //var/log/secure :// / /Jun 21 11:08:31 [localhost]

puppet for switches
This might be a crazy idea, but it just popped into my head, and I wanted to know if it''s possible. Perhaps not possible right now, but possible in a theoretical sense. Is it possible that puppet could be modified to be used to manage switches that have a command line based interface? When I manage our Allied Telesis switches (which have a CLI similar to cisco IOS) I wonder if I could
