SMBmount in daemon mode slow to write
Hi, We have a linux server which has the samba client running in daemon mode (smb shares auto-mounted via fstab). The source smb share is on a W2K box, and both machines are on the same 100MB ethernet LAN. Whenever we try to copy a file from the linux machine's local disk to the SMB share, we would get speed like 5,000-6,000 kbps, but yet if we try to ftp the same file from the linux box to

Probably a stupid question about smbfs and smb.conf.
This seems like it should have an obvious answer, but I haven't seen a clear word one way or the other in the man pages or other documentation that I have read - is smbmount's behavior in any way governed by the smb.conf file? The reason I ask is one of the other sysadmins here has been trying to figure out ways to improve smbfs performance, and he came across the speed.txt file in

Things I would like to see.
For the future if possible i'd like to see a couple of things in icecast. 1) being able to create/edit/delete static mount points from the web interface without neededing to edit the config file and restarting the server from a shell account. Like you can do right now with usernames and passwords 2) Be able to create/edit/delete relays from web interface (same as above) I don't know if

You know i'd settle just for relay setup on the web interface. It doesn't matter to me if they get erased on restart, all my relays are just temp. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=Ottawa Valley Weather-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Weather @ 12:20am - Temp: 22.1?C - Humidity 78% - Wind: S @ 0 km/h Baro: 996kPa Steady - Vis: 14km - Sky: Clear - Weather: --- Hourly Rain: 0.00mm - Daily Rain:

Testing to see if drive mounted with smbmount
Mates, I have set up a backup scheme that uses rsync to backup shares from my mdk 7.2 box to an old ibm box that is running win95. Basically I use "smbmount //backup/d /mnt/backup -o password=" to mount the ibm's d:/ as /mnt/backup. How can I test to see if the drive is still mounted without using another smbmount call prior to starting the rsync backup. smbmount works for this,

smbmount and smb_dont_catch_keepalive
Hi! I am experiencing strange smbmount problems with my 3 computers. I have: janeway, an NT 4.0 SP5 box, torres, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.5a, q, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36. Both Linux machines have smbfs compiled as a module and loaded. I can smbmount janeway shares on both torres and q, and I can see torres shares on janeway. Naturally, q can't be seen by

Strangeness in mount attempts...
I am attempting to find out why the following is happening, and have been spending the last hour or so scanning the mailing list archives and a couple of FAQs (though I would by no means call the search exhaustive, just geting a little too long for my own taste). As far as I can tell, smbmount is a stripped out smbclient with some extras in there to do the sctual mounting. Which is why I am

DSA Fingerprints...
Hello, Questions, observations, and curiosities. Maybe this is something stupid or maybe I'm doing something wrong... But... In light of the Kurt Seifried paper on SSH and SSL, I was looking for the finger prints on my various servers and known hosts files to have a little crib sheet and maybe plug the list into a database on my palm pilot. I found that ssh-keygen lists out the

Can't see shares, and also smbmount works but mount -t cifs doesn't
Hi (this is most likely a newbie question). A couple of problems. I have a linux guest (puppy) running on vmplayer on a friend's machine, which runs WinXP home. I have folder sharing enabled on the host for a few different folders. I am trying to mount the winxp host shared folders onto the linux guest. First problem is that I can't seem to see the shares. smbtree only lists the

Samba error when getting file from NT Server to Linux client
Hi, I have a small problem with Samba in Debian 2.1 (Slink), kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.5. I have a NT Server and a Linux client. I want to get some files from NT Server to the Linux client. They are in the same network and the IP's are: NT Server - 222.222.222.2 Linux Client - 222.222.222.40 Reading samba docs I discover two small utilities:

split-plot design?
Dear R-gurus, We are planning an experiment to test if plants produced by selfing are less fit than those produced by outcrossing. We have plants from three different alpine valleys, picked randomly among all the possible valleys. In each valley, we have a number of individuals, also picked at random. seeds from this individuals were brought back to the green house and sawned. when they

accessing Windows shares with smbount garbles german Umlaute

Problem: I create a file on a windows machine called sm?rebr?d.txt and mount said drive from a Linux machine via smbmount, there it becomes: sm?rebr?d.txt Had this problem with local disks, too, but fixed that by adding iocharset=iso8859-1
