ACL: some maybe stupid questions
Hi.
I want to use ACL on my RH-9.0 box (x86), so I got ext3 ACL patch from
http://acl.bestbits.at/ and tried to apply it to the kernel that ships
with RH (2.4.20-8). The patching fails on some vm file so I got a vanila
kernel 2.4.20, apply the patch and compile it. This works fine. Also
RH-9.0 precompiled Samba 2.2.7 works fine with ACL.
I connected to my share with WinXP and do some testing

GlusterFS, move files, Samba ACL...
[ Received no feedback, i resend it... ]
A little strange things, but i'm hitting my head on the wall...
I needed to 'enlarge' my main filesystem (XFS backed-up), that contain my
main samba share and a brick for a GFS share; i've setup a new volume (for
the VM), formatted XFS, move all the file taking care to umount and stop GFS
(so, syncing the brick, not the GFS filesystem)

Lock order violation and file lost
I will probably file a bug about this, but perhaps someone here will
have some ideas.
We have a problem with files being deleted instead of being saved when
making changes in Microsoft Excel. The log shows an error of:
'Lock order violation'. This is with Samba 4.1.6 and happens on both
Linux (2.6.25-14.fc9.i686) and Solaris 10. No such problem when running
Samba 3.6.22.
We have a setup

Mac OS X and ACL's
I've reverted my test box fs back to winbindd and taken sssd out of the mix.
I'd love some more help on this as its now faring better in testing than sssd with the macs, however I can set the users to be looked up but I'm having issues with having the names of the groups show up. It seems to be working however its now showing the GIDs as opposed to the group names.

Mac OS X and ACL's
Hi all,
I have a server that has ACL's enabled on it and the groups are set properly from the domain that are applied on top of it for the shared folders. I am running with Mac OS X 10.10.5 on the client side and am having nothing but issues with getting them to respect the ACL's set on the files.
The Server Setup is as follows:

File permissions issue: different behavior between samba and unix
I'm seeing behavior that I was hoping somebody could explain. I have a
share set up that will be a repository for company-wide data. There are
three classes of people who can access it, readers, read/writers, and
admins. Readers and read/writers are self explanatory, admins have
read/write access, and can change the permissions/ownership of files.
Read and write access is controlled by

ACL defaults and masks
Hello!
In samba 3 we used create mask , force create..?? to set file permisions. In samba 4 as I understand those options are? ignored and default acls are used instead. But, is it possible to set? by default different permisions on files and folders?? For example?? on folders rwx, and on files rw-. Because I dont want to give x? permision to file as I think it can be dangerous. Thanks in

Samba / Office 2007/2010
Hi all,
currently we have troubles with the constellation of Office 2007 / 2010 and samba 3.6.6 on Debian 7.5.
I can open a Excel file only one time without a write protection. The File is protected on the second try. I can move and copy the file wihtout any Problems. If I move such a Excel File I can open it again for only one time without a write Protection.
I already reseted and checked

Why isn't Samba honouring UNIX permissions? [NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED]
Classification: NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED
Solaris 9
Samba 3.4.5
I know this isn't the sort of query that gets much response but I'd be
really grateful of any advice people can offer.
I'm getting really fed up with Samba as I've never been able to make it
work properly. Either I'm missing something basic (probably) or it just
doesn't behave in the way I think it should!

Proper unix ownership/Permissions for top level share
I am using zfs on linux to store my file shares on. When I create a new
file system, they have the following permissions:
[root at server ~]# zfs create tank/testsystem
[root at server ~]# ls -Al /tank
drwxrwxrwx+ 10 root root 27 Jun 2 20:10 Software
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2 Jun 3 07:43 testsystem
At this point, if I use the rsat and attempt to set ACL, I get

Randomly occurring file losses on samba share
Hello,
further investigating the problem we were able to provoke an issue that might be related to the initial problem and could be reproduced with a higher likelihood. The core of the reproducible problem is, that sometimes a file is being created by an application running on the client, but then cannot be written to. Therefore the application throws permission related errors and documents

[Samba 2.2.6] share permissions override Unix rigths?
Hi All!
I have Samba 2.2.6 installed on Solaris 8 SPARC. Samba is authenticating
users against LDAP (Netscape Directory Server 4.12)
One of my directories has rights as following (using synonyms):
d rwx r-x --- owner : growner VOL5
I have another user USER1 whose primary group membership is GROUP1,
supplementary groupmembership GROWNER.
My Samba config follows:

[3.0.2] Trouble using ACLs: wrong file permissions after write/cr eate
Hi everybody,
I have a problem with Samba 3.0.2 using POSIX ACLs for shares.
File written from an ACL group/user will get wrong permissions
and are unchangeable for other users.
First the important informations about the configuration and
the setup:
a) Base system: Debian 3.0.1 with all updates
b) Samba: Self compiled binary within /opt/samba-3.0.2

question regarding samba permissions
I want to make a subfolder read only for certain users.
for example: /data/pool is public rwx for all users.
and now i would like to make a /data/pool/subfolder only rwx for user1 and grant read only permissions to user2 and user3
how do i do this? any links or direct tips on that?
my suggestion would be something like this, but as you can imagine it didn't work:
# The general datapool
