Install Samba4 as File Server
Hi
I intend to install Samba 4 as a file server on Debian 10 with apt-get.
I understood it, I don't need to install the OS dependencies (
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu),
because I will use the distribution repository.
This way, do I need only packages below?
# apt-get install acl attr samba samba-dsdb-modules

Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
Thanks Marc,
I can see your point. The Samba version we used, is 4.3.11-Ubuntu.
I have not found any newer package for Ubuntu. We have found no other
way to upgrade this, than to download 4.6.3, then make, make install and
.configure. We have followed this guide:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu.
Anyway, it states "Please

Building on debian 8.6
Hi,
Despite having used samba for many, many years, I have not built from
source on Debian before. CentOS, yes.. Raspbian, yes.. but not Debian
itself.
I have installed Debian 8.6 from scratch:

And that's great, but it has never worked for me and it is very
demoralizing to follow the instructions and not get a result.

the documentation here

Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
Hello,
I have set up a Samba printserver at a school. The server is a
standalone server, connected to no domain. I have installed printers
with Cups, and uploaded Windows printerdrivers to the shared driver
folder. I can add the shared printers in a Windows 10 Pro client,
without any hassle. When I try the same in any Win 10 Home edition, I
get Windows error messages like "error

domain authentication issue after rebooting Debian Jessie - need to restart samba each time
I followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller.'
Everything works find except when I reboot I have to restart samba or I
added a pause and then restart to /etc/rc.local otherwise the windows
machines can't authenticate.
I googled this problem but have not been able to figure out the solution.
My OS is debian Jessie.

So I created a VM and installed samba with ad support on it

all the tests for the DNS entries checked out

Update Wiki for backup script
Hello,
I notice the script expects to have $PATH include
'/usr/local/samba/bin'. Script will fail if it can't find tdbbackup. It
was obvious to me but others may stumble. Maybe someone could add under
the 'About the samba_backup script' section.
"/This requires that your whole samba installation is on one place (like
/usr/local/samba/). This script assumes you
