How to turn on SMB3 POSIX extensions in Samba server?
The SMB3 POSIX extensions is different from the old Unix extensions. The Unix extensions can only support vers=1.0, but the new SMB3 POSIX extensions can support SMB3.1.1, vers=3.1.1. You can check this 2018 presentation slides: https://www.snia.org/sites/default/files/SDC/2018/presentations/SMB/Steve_French_SMB311.pdf Page 12 shows that POSIX extensions has been added. Page 22 shows that SMB3

How to turn on SMB3 POSIX extensions in Samba server?
Hi, I want to use the SMB3 POSIX extensions in the latest Samba (with SMB3.1.1, vers=3.1.1). By following the user manual, I have added the "posix" mount option when mounting, but it shows the following error messages. Error messages: [xxxxx] CIFS VFS: Server does not support mounting with posix SMB3.11 extensions. [xxxxx] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -95 Mount option:

Samba Persistent Handles
Yes, I saw that they are different I was just willing to test something similar. Actually, I'm searching for a Samba feature that allow transparent failover, or continuos availablity in a cluster setup (Samba + ctbd + gluster) Based on the following link my understanding is that such feature is not currently available in Samba:

Changes in Linux CIFS Kernel Module w.r.t. ACL features
I passed by the changelog for the Linux CIFS Kernel Module at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/LinuxCIFSKernel. The following two sections caught my attention: >> 4.19 Kernel (69 changesets, module version 2.13) >>Allow cifs.ko to be built with insecure dialects disabled (vers=1.0 and vers=2.0 not allowed). Add support for snapshot >> mounts (specifying "snapshot="

reliability of mounting shares while login
Hi @all, I have some problems when using pam_mount.conf.xml to mount shares via kerberos (and also for ntlm) regarding reliability of the mount. I have tested the issue with 2 different environments. My environments are: 2 Microsoft Domain Controllers + a separate fileserver and Ubuntu 18.04 or 22.04 as clients. My other tested environment is one Microsoft Server 2019 (as domain controller and

Unable to support Unix permissions via S-1-5-88 NFS ACEs for Linux clients
Hi all. Several years ago, Linux's CIFS kernel driver has implemented two little-known options, "idsfromsid" and "modefromsid" for Unix permission emulation. When both options are enabled, the Unix file user, group, and permissions are stored as SMB ACL entries, and is translated from, to, and checked as Unix permissions by the Linux client itself, without server

cifs.ko kernel module versus smb.conf - which SMB protocol version?
Hello guys, could someone help me better understand the mechanism of negotiating of the SMB protocol? I watch closely samba list and recently there was a talk about the 'smb.conf' parameters like eg. "max protocol =" etc. with regards to Windows 10 (and other windows clients of diff versions). I read Jeff_Layton-Linux-CIFS-Client.pdf and

[Bug 108651] Screen flickering when using compositor with OpenGL backend

Right now all the users experienced this problem seems to be using the i3 window manager, I don't know if this is reproducible with windowmaker. I don't know the mesa version they use, I will ask. But judging that they are

Re-How to enable domain logon from NT workstation
Hi, This is really a follow on from Sandie's (shui@pointsnoth.com) problem of using samba to act as a domain logon server for NT Workstation 4. I have tried using samba2alpha8 (on Linux 2.0) and have failed to get the domain logon working from NT Workstation although Windows98 worked fine. I followed the instructions in Samba NT Domain FAQ apart from the use of encrypted passwords which

SMB3 verification in Wireshark
Hi, I am running samba-4.1.4 on my Fedora OS. I have provided the "client max protocol = SMB3" and "server max protocol = SMB3" parameters in smb.conf file I'm able to get only SMB2.1 packets using wireshark after fileshare access from my windows 7 machine. And not SMB3 packets. SMB2->NegotiateProtocol Response 0x0202 0x0210 Samba-4.1.4 is supporting SMB3 also. So
