multiple user folders showing up
I have set up my samba with winbind and it appears to be working fine. Altered the pam.d/system-auth file and it is creating the user directories. The issue I am running into is that if "biguser" logs in and goes to the server and then logs out of the W2K client and then user "david" logs in on the same client and goes to the server he sees shared directories or appears to

Server writes...?
I have a quick question about rsync's writing of files.
I have a team of people that all use the host BigServer, which is
running rsync as a deamon, as a central place to keep all shared files
backed up. The "master copy" for any given file is considered to be the
local file that somebody has worked on -- i.e., BigServer is NOT
considered the master copy. BigServer is the backup

samba trouble with Vista
_____
I am having some issues getting my vista client to automatically reconnect
to samba after a reboot. The client OS is Vista Business 64Bit SP1. The
server is running on Ubuntu (latest version) and Samba 3.2.3.
The symptoms are this. I browse to the server via \\name or \\IP_address. I
then select a share, map network share to say z:/ It will usually prompt me
for authentication just

CIFS mount not applying setuids
Hello all,
I've been dealing with this problem for years now and I am a bit fed
up with it. Maybe some of you all can shed some light on the situation.
I am having problems with my samba server setting the
uid/gid/permissions incorrectly when a file is written to the server
filesystem over cifs. I currently use the account remotemounter for
mounting samba shares. Even with the

Just call me Marty. Ham13 is a login name on another system. OK. I'm posting
the smb.conf and thee smbclient responses form both Linux PC's. One running
Mint 19.1 and the other running Mint 18.3. The 18.3 machine does connect to
the network. All I want to do use the file manager to connect to and open
directories and to move files between the three PC's.

configuring a backup domain server
Hi
Im looking to config a BDC with ldap. It seems the connection with ldap
primary server works, but Im confused with the shared folders. I understood
when you creates a BDC needs to put the same global information:

workgroup = DOMAIN
netbios name = DOMAIN-PDC
security = user
enable privileges = yes

Installing onto Windows
Since this is a standalone server.
Change
map to guest = bad user
to
map to guest = bad password
put the 2 pc's hostnames in the /etc/hosts file on the samba server.
Stop and start samba.
And it helps if
In smb.conf : workgroup = WORKGROUP and workgroup in windows are the same.
Can you access based on \\ip\share and \\hostname\share ?
