Vulnerability patch issue for 4.1.x
I would stress, test the upgrade first and have a way back readily available, because there are many users here that report basic domain functionality broken for the newly patched versions of Samba... SMB3 verification in Wireshark
Hi, I am running samba-4.1.4 on my Fedora OS. I have provided the "client max protocol = SMB3" and "server max protocol = SMB3" parameters in smb.conf file I'm able to get only SMB2.1 packets using wireshark after fileshare access from my windows 7 machine. And not SMB3 packets. SMB2->NegotiateProtocol Response 0x0202 0x0210 Samba-4.1.4 is supporting SMB3 also. So

Issue on DEBUG statement
Hi, I was running samba-4.1.4 successfully on my fedora till the below issue occurs. I had put some simple DEBUG statements in "lib/util/debug.c" (reopen_logs_internal() and some other funcs) file to understand the logging mechanism. And the same is compiled fine without any issues. And I started my samba service(both nmbd and smbd), I got "(core dumped) segmentation fault"

error when trying to copy file from samba share to old Windows CE share
Hello, This error started after upgrading my distro(did a fresh install of fedora 30 server edition), which upgraded samba from 4.1.20 to 4.10.4. If I try to copy a file using a Windows 7 PC from the samba share to an old Windows CE share (on a CNC router table, so can't upgrade it) it tells me: An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error,

Share cannot be accessed when samba is in Domain with security enabled
Rowland, Thanks for ur suggestions. I have used “map to guest=never” and I no longer getting that original error. Do you guess any other issues I may face with keeping stand-alone server and above parameter. So far it is working fine for me in Domain environment. > > -----Original Message----- > From: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of Rowland Penny via

Samba tuning advise
Helo, We use a big fileserver running Linux/Samba as fileshare. We are facing performances problems for which we'd like some advise : Clients are OS2(LanManager) and windows 2000 reading and writing lots of files in the same directory on the fileshare. We currently have more than 80 000 files in the directory (files size is about 100 Bytes). Could you please advise us some Samba tuning

Big Migration
Next month I will move about 3000 clients (w2k) to a PDC samba, after that I will have more 1200 clients, but this time will be Linux, my question is: 1- Is there domain logon, like we have for Windows users ? 2- is smb the protocol recommended to FileShare to Linux clients or NFS is better (is there another one) ? -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

OS/2 error while accessing samba share
I have a Samba server running version 3.0.2-6.3E on Whitebox Linux 3. The samba server is joined to a NT4 domain. I can access the share from my XP Pro box just fine. But, accessing the samba share from an OS/2 box results in an error. I am able to map the share just fine using 'net use'. But when I try to access the share within the GUI, I get the error: "No objects were found that

Samba and " (and maybe other characters) in paths/files
Hello I have samba installed on my server, with a fileshare. When connecting to samba, using windows, filesnames with " (double quotes) in them become gibberish on the windows client. Under linux I connect to these fileshares using NFS, and the names are correct (I also created them this way). I've made a screenshot: http://users.webmind.be/~glenn/samba.PNG How can I fix this?

getting files and ACLs from a fileshare in Python
Hi, I am weighing Python for an application which needs to connect to a fileshare, to index the documents and also to retrieve the ACLs. Is there an equivalent of the Java libjcifs in Python? Given that the application will be running on Windows, what is the best way to use the win32 API from Python? If the application is running on Linux, I might be better off simply mounting the share. Hello! Ive just got the lovely job of converting and old Windows NT 4 fileserver to FreeBSD, ive set up samba before as a simple fileshare but this place requires roaming profile login from WinXP, Win98 and Win95 clients. My question is whether or not any of you people have any experience with this and might be able to give some tips on the way? I've tried fidling with it but i cant get
