Sernet Packages - configure Options
Hello Rowland, thanks for your tipp. the last time i tried this (was fairly samba 4.0), transferring fsmo roles ended up in corruption. is this now a safe feature? i found out, that the build options are nearly the same, just modules dir differs. so replace the binaries would make it? remove sernet packages and install my own Am 20.04.2016 um 22:15 schrieb Rowland penny: > On 20/04/16

How to move DC to other Server
Hi, i want to move my DC from an amd64 debian jessie to a armhf debian jessie. My first guess is to demote the dc and rejoin the new server. Der DC has all FSMO roles and is part of a three DC setup. Would this be the right way or should i choose another way? Regards, Dirk

How to move DC to other Server
In that case, just move all the Samba files once the first server is offline. All the join/demote games suggested here are more likely to cause you trouble than help, due to a bug in our RID Set management:  https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12394 None of Samba's databases are arch-specific, so if the hostname and IP are the same, just restore the databases and config files and it

Best Pratice for installing samba package in production environment
And for lazy people - as me - who started with Sernet's packages and then switched to compiled version there is an option from ./configure script called "--enable-fhd" which is meant to install Samba DB and stuffs into /var/lib/samba as with Sernet's packages. >From configure's help: --enable-fhs Use FHS-compliant paths (default no) You should

Best Pratice for installing samba package in production environment
Dear Rowland, thank you for your mail and the details provided. In that case, i suppose that it will be possible for someone that initially install the sernet 4.2.X version, to receive the earlier updates of samba4 after subcription. I mean that passing to the earlier version of samba sernet package without migrating active directory to another server. Thank you again one more time. Regards

Debian Wheezy member server from backports to self compile
Hello, I'm unable to update my Samba from 4.1.17 to 4.4.2. I'm looking to build from tar instead. From what I gather the following should be the steps taken. ./configure --without-ad-dc -- sbindir= /usr/sbin --sysconfdir=/etc/samba/ --/usr/share/man/ make make install Am I missing something else? Thanks. -- -James

Domain join failure - error during DRS repl ADD: No objectClass found in replPropertyMetaData
If you plan to keep 4.3.x you can use --enable-fhs from configure script's options (and the two others proposed by configure --help associated to --enable-fhs). Doing that you should have most of your directories reused (/etc/samba, /var/lib/samba...) That worked for me as I don't care polluting /usr and others (I use VMs and destroy them without a tear) on Centos 7 when I switched from

pid and lock dir during compile
I am compiling 2.2.8 on a Caldera Openlinux box that was running 2.0.5 or some such. It already has a working config and uses samba.d dirs for it's files: /etc/samba.d /var/lock/samba.d /var/log/samba.d etc During compile I use following switches --with-piddir=/var/lock/samba.d --with-lockdir=/var/lock/samba.d However the pid files are ending up in /var/run/samba instead of
