Not all of it I'm afraid, but hopefully here are the relevant bits.

RE: error (fwd)
Hi folks,
I've got this funny problem with R's foreign library when reading stata
files. One file consistently produces vector out of memory errors after
gobbling up 2.7G of memory. I parsed through the read.dta function and
figured out where the error occurs and the description is below. I am
running R-1.8.1 on Debian stable system glibc2.2 kernel 2.4.24. R is is

I'm running the binaries explicitly, not relying on the PATH. I'd
thought that was clear, but it's true I

Win2k auth on named share fails on mixed Windows network.
Hi there,
Background:
Samba 3.6.6 compiled from source on Debian Squeeze using the Debian-
installed Kerberos (1.8.3) libraries. Running in an Active directory
domain with mixed Win2k Server and Win2k3 Server DCs. Yes, I've been
trying to persuade them. Both WINS and DNS name resolution work on
the system. Samba uses the DCs for WINS, and the DCs are also name
servers with an additional

Forward routed network bridge on system's vlan
Hi all,
I created a two node cluster that manages virtual machines with two
servers connected via a cross cable on the network 10.0.0.0/24. I want
that machines that runs on different servers in the network
172.16.0.0/24 can see all the others.
To make this possible I've configured a vlan on each server:

replication stuck?
Until yesterday replication between my two DCs (boa and cobra) was running fine. Now I am observing one direction boa->cobra being stuck. I noticed this with a missing update of a DNS entry, but samba-tool drs showrepl confirms?
Output of cobra shows plenty entries like the following (including just he first of each type):

replication stuck?
I figured it out myself. The kerberos configuration on the old dc cobra was bad ? no clue why it worked at all until yesterday.
After fixing it, testing with kinit, and restarting the dc processes it resumed replication.

Errors building 3.6.25 after applying security patches
Hi,
I'm attempting to build 3.6.25 after applying the 16-Dec-2015 and the
12-Apr-2016 patches from samba.org but I'm seeing two issues. First during
autogen.sh I see:
/build/samba/samba-3.6.25/source3 # ./autogen.sh
./autogen.sh: running script/mkversion.sh
./script/mkversion.sh: 'include/version.h' created for Samba("3.6.25")

samba 3.6.6 shares show as samba 3.6.3
Hi
I just upgraded my file server from 3.6.3 to 3.6.6.
In windows explorer, new shares show up as samba 3.6.6 but ones I
created before the upgrade still show the old version, 3.6.3.
The DC is Samba4
Is this fixable?
Cheers,
Steve

Clients unable to get group policy...
Rowland, you are correct. I remember now. When we started using
XenServer, Wheezy would not work under it. This is a Squeeze
installation, not Wheezy. Will Samba no longer work with Squeeze? If so
it may be an excuse to upgrade the domain after all these years.

upgrade samba (3.0.33) to samba-3x (3.6.6) on Centos5
Hi
Related to my previous posting on joining win7 to a domain with samba-3.6.6
(which I finally managed to do!)
With Centos5 one has the option of installing either Samba which is 3.0.33
or Samba3x which is 3.6.6 with the latest updates to centos5.9
My own server was set up with samba3x and hence was able to attempt
connection of win7 PC
I have several customers with older installations using

Samba is corrputing/removing files at version 3.6.6
Hello all!
I'm with problems with samba 3.6.6. The same happens with 3.6.5, and the
upgrade do not helps. Samba is corrupting/removing files in my shares.
All happenns like in this bug report, where is attached the smb.conf and
another informations about the bug:

I really don't know what can I do now to solve this, and I'm

Issues with 3.6.6 as a PDC for Windows 7
Hi folks,
At a customer, I installed a fresh Samba Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" with samba
3.6.6 as a PDC for a network of Windows 7 machines. This isn't my
first-ever samba installation (I have several customers whom I support
running samba in similar configurations), but it is the first time I'm
using the just-released Debian "Wheezy" and the samba that comes with it.

Samba 3.6.6 member on a Samba 4 domain controller
Hi
I'm having troubles to make a samba 3.6.6 member server on a Samba 4 domain.
I successfully joined the domain.
I'm able to list users and groups on the domain from the member server with
wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g .
If I try wbinfo -i foo , I get an error :
Failed to call wbcgetpwnam: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND

Slow file listing : Debian Wheezy, Samba Version 3.6.6
Hello Richard,
Not sure if it applies to your particular case, but I would try following. In windows explorer please right click on the mapped drive, select Properties, click on Customize tab and make sure that option "Optimize this folder for:" is set to "General Items", otherwise select it, check "Also apply this template to all subfolders" and click Apply.
Also,
