Slow SID to name translation in Windows Security tab (groups)
Hello
I'am using Samba 4.2.3 in CentOS 7.2.1511 (distro release) with openLdap
integration as standalone file server.
Everything works good, but when I want to use Windows extended ACLs
(right click on folder -> Properities, Security tab), translation of
SIDs to real group names is going realy slow.
Mentioned problem occours only when I add security permissions for
groups, user SIDs are

VFS full_audit problem
Hi all,
I had implemented on one of my shares vfs full_audit module. It was
working with Samba 3.0.x without any problems.
After migration to Samba 3.4.3 this function doesn't work anymore - when
it's enabled then share isn't accessible from users (it's visible but
getting error when trying to connect to it).
Audit and extd_audit vfs's are working fine, but they

Update -- Username to SID translation on Security Tab
Below is a message I sent out on Friday.. I've noticed something even
stranger now-- if I attempt to remove the SID from the permissions
window and hit "Apply" it dissappears for a moment and comes right back.
Also, If I remove it, then manually add myself to the permissions
file, it shows up fine, but after I hit Apply, it goes back to the SID.
So I have two problems here,

Issue with samba SID
Hello:
I have a samba PDC with LDAP, samba 3.0.33 and 389DS 1.2.5. I am adding
computer accounts with smbldap-useradd script configured in smb.conf like
this:
add machine script = /usr/bin/perl -w
/opt/ldap/smbldap-tools/bin/smbldap-useradd -w -c '%a' -t 10 -J Equipos '%u'
My problem is that I get a samba sid I don't understand why samba creates
like that. I

SID mapping to group name failed...
Hi,
I'am experimenting an error on a Samba 3.0.20 pdc with ldap backend :
When I have a try with the MS Win2k ACL editor to change a file
permissions located on a Samba share, I can add or suppress domain users
related acls, but with group related acls, an error occurs : MS Editor
correctly shows the group SID, but cannot map the SID with the
associated group name.
smbd.log gives :

Surprising/Unexpected result after deleting and re-adding a user on our Samba domain
I don't want to call this a security problem. Since it isn't a code
exploit, but, many people might have this problem.
The other day a user was removed from our SLES samba-3.0.28-0.6 domain
due to inactivity, but he still needed his account, so I recreated it. I
didn't try to restore the LDAP data, so he got a new SID, etc.
I was amazed to find that once his userid was created,

I have now tried adding:

what is the SID of the domain administrator?
Does the domain administrator SID always end with -1000?
I.e., if the SID for the domain is:
S-1-2-33-4444444444-555555555-6666666666
does this mean that the domain administrator's SID would be:
S-1-2-33-4444444444-555555555-6666666666-1000
?
How can I get the SID number for any given user?

3.0.23 ldapsam:trusted=yes problem
Hi all!
I've a running Samba PDC (LDAP backend) with windows clients. All the users
are in the LDAP, including the 'guest' user. All except the 'root' user which
is a regular user. Then change in the smb.conf
ldapsam:trusted = yes
ldapsam:editposix = yes
and noticed some speed-up when listing groups, look file ownerships, and so
on. But I can't add machines to the

Samba + ldap + cannot find domain
So this got me thinking that maybe a chunk of my problem is with LDAP itself on the server. Executing "slapcat" shows me what I believe to be the correct content, including what looks like appropriate content underneath the following:
dn: sambaDomainName=DRBHOME,dc=drbhome,dc=ca
That seems to answer the question about whether the domain info is actually there.

password changes with ctrl-alt-del
Currently I'am using samba for file sharing. My smb.conf file is basically
setup as default with a few minor changes. Therefore, my samba server is
not part of a domain. Right now users can map the samba shares with
windows XP... With this type of setup is it possible for them to change
there smbpasswd using ctrl-alt-del? If so any examples or hints on how
to set this up would be great.
