samba4 schema for openldap
Assuming the DNS for the site is setup correctly, the srv records should be evenly spreading the load among the servers on the site that the client is on. With Windows based domain the answer to this question is either fix your ldap client to use the SRV records and not use only the DC with the PDC Emulator role, or add more DCs to the site. I would assume the answer is the same for a Samba

openldap proxy cache for samba
Hello, we use samba with ldap backend. All is working well. Now the user count should grow to about 3000 users in a mixed environment with PCs and terminal servers. So the most of the users typically have (more than one) sessions to different terminal servers. The smb version is (tragically) still v1 and a lot of the clients comes over a NAT gateway. To reduce the traffic to the remote ldap

samba4 ldap high load and port queue overflow
Hi all. I have samba 4.2.3 on freebsd 10.1 server. There are three DC and about 350 PC on domain. DCs have 3 CPU and 3GB RAM. Some servers with services like apache, exim, dovecot, etc use samba4 ldap (port 389) for user authentication. Some times ago after adding some services to use ldap I found, that samba4 cannot serve all ldap requests. Every 10-30 minutes I see in DCs logs: dc1 kernel:

Internal DNS and recursion
On the Samba wiki at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Internal_DNS there is the following: If you have chosen the internal DNS as backend for your environment, there are only two options that can be added to your smb.conf, to control the behaviour of DNS at this point: # Don't allow any updates | allow unsigned updates | only allow signed updates allow dns updates = False |

Hi, All. In official samba wiki https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Installing_RSAT_on_Windows_for_AD_Management#Installation Feature explanation: Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell: Administrating AD via PowerShell I thought I can manage samba4 domain with powershell, but I can't. diplicate entries in OpenLDAP samba.schema shiped with samba 3.0.6 src
Hi All. Trying to use the file /samba-3.0.6/examples/LDAP/samba.schema I found that it has duplicate entries for atributetype > grep 1.3.6.1.4.1.7165.2.1.50 /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/* /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/samba.schema.new:attributetype ( 1.3.6.1.4.1.7165 .2.1.50 NAME 'sambaLogonHours' /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/samba.schema.new:attributetype ( 1.3.6.1.4.1.7165

Any way to use Samba 2.2 with OpenLDAP directory using Samba 3 schema?
I'm in the process of upgrading OpenLDAP from 2.0 to 2.2 and many Samba servers from 2.2 to 3.0 over the course of several weeks. I have a test setup using Samba 3 against OpenLDAP 2.2 with the Samba 3 schema. I would like to be able to point all my existing Samba 2.2 servers at the new directory while they wait their turn to be upgraded. I see that Samba 2.2 allows me to specify an
