Getting Oriented
As Marc recently pointed out, start with:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Documentation
But for me at least, it has been a learning struggle. There are a
number of things you have to add for a running AD besides Samba. See my
email on "AD order of installation" to get a feel for what is involved.
Of course first chooose your Linux distro. Then consider using sernet

Samba 2.2.5 update process
I recently downloaded the samba 2.2.5 update.
I ran GZIP and tar.
next i did the configuration according to Using Samba by Robert
Eckstein, David Collier-Brown, Peter Kelly 1st edition Nov. 1999.
Steps were as follows:
./configure
make
make install
added swat to /etc/services
swat 901/tcp
after all of this it does not appear that samba was actually updated.
I looked in samba.org for

Mapping / UNC question
Hiya!
I have a developer that would like to be able to have access to a share on a
UNIX server running Samba where he can use UNCs embedded in VB code on a
win2k client to access files on the share. No problem, easily done.
He also wants users to _NOT_ be able to use the Windows Explorer to map the
drive and gain access that way. He wants only for his embedded UNCs to
access the share.

UDP port 1194 marking/routing problem
Hi folks,
I have OpenVPN (respect for it developers) running on my FW.
Is has two external NICs and on internal everything is fine, except
I want OpenVPN (UDP port 1194) going not via default route/network interface.
I use such commands:
iptables -t mangle -D POSTROUTING -o eth0 -p udp --dport 1194 -j MARK --set-mark 0x990
ip rule add fwmark 0x990

[LLVMdev] bug in ilist_node::getPrevNode() ?
Hi all,
I stumbled over a problem in ilist_node::getPrevNode(). It crashes when invoked for the first element in a list.
It's because the Prev pointer of a first list element does not point to the sentinel but is just null.
First question: Is this really a bug or am I doing something wrong?
Second question: If it is a bug, what should be the correct behaviour? Either change insert() to let

Is [print$] still avaiable in samba V4.6.7?
Hi,
I haven't see any stuff with [print$] section from `man smb.conf` of
samba v4.6.7, is this section still available for drivers
auto-installation
for windows ?
I know it is usable from some out-of-date tutorial of old samba. But I
don't figure out How-TO in the latest one.
Thanks,

starting stoping samba 4.11
Hai,
Im understanding why this is going like it is..
We really need to change/update some wiki pages.
TP, did read (assuming)
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Build_Samba_from_Source
Or
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Waf
Somewhere at the end, we should need to add whats next.

Using Samba4 AD to authenticate users of other Linux services (SSH, Mail, etc.)
I'm confused about how to authenticate users of other Unix services with Samba4 AD.
After trying the classic upgrade on a test server, I can use smbclient. However,
"getent passwd" doesn't show the users, and I'm not sure what I have to do now.
On the live machines, I have openldap, pam-ldapd and nslcd running to authenticate
users of Samba 3 as well as ssh, postfix,

PXE Boot Menu with iSCSI and AOE!
Dear developer,
I am working on a project for my graduate work (diploma), which includes iSCSI and AOE booting. I made some menus using pxelinux and things are working fine with linux, but I have a small problem with windows system which require direct iscsi or aoe access.
I have dhcpd.conf setup that it to each first dhcp request handles out pxelinux.0, then I can chooose from that menu which OS

security = share
Hi,
in "Using Samba" by G. Carter, J Ts and R. Eckstein, 3rd edition, on
chapter 5, page 113, I ses that the security = share option is
"deprecated". It is said that "there is a high chance that ... will be
removed from Samba at some future time".
I find that security = share is extremely useful for many small non
critical networks.
Is it still the case that

OpenSSH's ssh daemon and X11 event forwarding
I just installed OpenSSH under Solaris 7. It seems to work. However,
when I connect to it using a PC running F-Secure SSH, I notice that the
DISPLAY variable is not set, as it is when I use the same PC software to
connect to other systems supporting SSH. How do I know whether or not
tunneling of X windows traffic through ssh is happening or not? Is
there anything special you have to do to get

Hardware decisions
I have a very small Samba4 system that supports my W7 clients. So small,
in fact, that I have only one DC (right now.) My DC is a 32-bit Pentium4
processor (512Mb RAM, 60Gb hdd), small form factor case, I got lucky and
found for cheap$$. My member server is a Intel DuoCore PC with RAID 1
(mdadm) hard drives mirrored running on Debian 7.8.0. And my backup
machine is a seperate (does only backup)
