user authentication issue
Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for the advice. I followed your suggestion collected the logged
information for a single connection attempt (i.e. smbclient
//servername/sharename -U username); I've included the log data below (in
the postscript). It looks like Samba is still looking for a Unix user
account and not finding one. I should mention that it seems that I am able
to authenticate as the user; the

user authentication issue
Hey Rowland,
Thanks for the advice. The host is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I've included
the smb.conf below (reverted it to its "original" state prior to following
Jeremy's advice). I don't suppose you know why the user is able obtain a
list of Samba services (i.e. smbclient -L host -U user) if they aren't
known to Samba? I find that confusing.

user authentication issue
Hey Samba list,
First a brief comment regarding my background and situation. This is my
first time posting to this list. I've been asked to resolve a Samba
authentication issue, but I have next to no experience using Samba.
Unfortunately no one else here knows how to use it either; we're operating
with an inherited environment from a sysadmin who left minimal
documentation, and we have

certain users can't map home directories
Very odd issue. Transitioning over to a new samba 3.6.9 (from 3.0.33)
server. Majority of the users are ok, but a handful of users cannot map
their home directories from windows7 clients. Logged into XP their homes
map fine. They pass authentication:

Samba3.5 + OpenLDAP config/install problem
System Summary:
centos 6.2
samba 3.5
smbldap-tools 0.9.6
openldap 2.4.23
Hello,
I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've
previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but
CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the
configurations cannot be moved straight across.
Currently, when I attempt to connect to an smb share

machine-account, but I still can't add the machine to the domain.

samba 3.0.14a works with ldapsam backend but not 3.5.10-125.el6
we are migrating our standalone Samba sever (3.0.14a) on a Solaris 10 box to
an RHEL 6.3 box.
Testing shows that on Solaris 3.0.14a works with both the OpenLDAP server
we are currently using and the IPA2.2 server as LDAP backend. But 3.5.10-125.el6
on a RHEL 6.3 box does not work with either.
I can still map a share with 3.5 as owner of the shared directory, but secondary
group ownership does

Synology NAS Samba Upgrade breaks "Classic" domain membership
I have a Synology NAS array appliance. It is linux based and uses
samba for file sharing. Normally the config is done via a gui
interface but you can ssh to the array. The domain controllers are
running Samba 3.6.x in classic domain mode. I have member servers
running 3.6.x and 4.3.8. no problem.
I recently updated the Synology "OS." The current version of samba is

Home-Shares are not writeable
Hello everyone!
After running Samba on several machines for some years, I just came
accross a rather strange problem. The short story is that the special
user home shares are readable, but not writeable.
Here's the long story: The system is a freshly set-up Debian Squeeze,
right out of the box. This is the Samba config:

Can't add machines to domain after Debian-Update

machines from the domain, changed the name, created a new
machine-account, but I still can't add the machine to the domain.
My /etc/smb.conf (see below the logfile) is unchanged since Debian Etch.

How to get users from a second AD domain recognized by samba?
I have an issue with getting my students access to the samba shares for
our lab's server. I am using authentication through our university's
active directory. I followed the directions for getting this set up
using winbind. I am using winbind for both samba authentication as well
as user logins through pam.
The trouble is this: I have no problems logging in and getting access to

Synology NAS Samba Upgrade breaks "Classic" domain membership
On both the synology (samba 4.1.20) and PDC (samba 3.6.25) testparm showed
client schannel = Auto
server schannel = Auto
I don't know if the server even supports schannel. Maybe it
doesn't any all the clients successfully negotiated not to use it. On
the synology, I set
client schannel = no
This fixed my domain membership issue. Although

with streams_xattr enabled, ads are written correctly but not retrieved
Hello,
I'm running Samba 3.6.6-1 on my x64 Arch Linux installation. I recently
decided to have my samba share support NTFS's Alternate Data Streams by
using streams_xattr or streams_depot. With streams_xattr I discovered that
if I copy a file having an ADS from a win7 box, on the linux console, I can
see the ADS as an xattr attached to the file. However when I copy the file
back to my
