The RPC server is unavailable
Hi, Thank you for your reply! I don't have any openchange services included in my installation. Nor am I using sogo. I changed the DNS settings on the DHCP server now, to only include the PDC. Any idea if I can still have the PDC forward the DNS calls with "dns forwarder" in smb.conf? Can I still use a secondary DNS server in resolv.conf on the PDC? It feels a bit risky,

The RPC server is unavailable
Hi, I'm running a samba 4.2 server on RedHat5 and for some reason I can't seem to logon using the AD Users and Computers -tool. Whenever I try to connect to the PDC I get the following error: "The following Domain Controller could not be contacted: <name of pdc>. The RPC server is unavailable." I've checked for any possible firewall issues, but even with all

The RPC server is unavailable
I added a new test user and it worked until I added the user to the "domain admins" group. Once there, it also started getting the NT_STATUS_INVALID_SID error message. It seems like the group is corrupted somehow. Any ideas on how to fix this? Can I reset or recreate a system group like Domain Admins? Winbindd dies instantly
Hi, I'm trying to set up a Samba 4.1.16 file server for our (Samba 4) domain. But for some reason I can't seem to be able to get it to work. Even worse, I have run out of ideas on how to debug this. I've been tampering with this for quite some time now, but I've come to realize I can't figure this out on my own. Can someone give me some pointers on where to look in order

Failed to connect host on port 135 - NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Hello, I've been trying to install Samba4 for a while now, following the instructions over at: http://linuxdrops.com/install-samba-4-on-centos-rhel-fedora-debian-ubuntu/ However, when I get to the stage where I should be able to join the domain with a Windows machine (7, not XP) I run into networking issues. For one, my network is behind a NAT so I can't just use a public DNS for

Winbindd dies instantly
You didn't send your mail to the list. ;-) As you said, you have samba-ad packages installed. Uninstall samba-ad, because you only need samba. Samba-ad is for DCs. I would try this to avoid errors to winbind by this package. Am 31. Correct usage of NFS mounted Maildirs
Dovecot 1.0RC15 running on Fedora Core 5 kernel 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5smp. A SLES10 server (kernel 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp) has the home directories on an ext3 partition mounted with options (rw,acl,user_xattr,usrquota) which is then exposed as an NFS mount with server side options (rw,no_root_squash,no_acl,async). The home directories include Maildirs to which postfix delivers. The Fedora Core 5

Samba 4.10 member: SMB login no longer working
Overall domain architecture hasn't changed since my spring cleanup post earlier (I did sort out the krb5 packages and logging settings, though). To start the migration, I figured I'd first update the file servers, since they're the least critical component. Upgrade 4.5 ? 4.8, 4.8 ? 4.9, 4.9 ? 4.10 seemed to work fine each step. However, SMB logins either with smbclient or with

kickstart: gfx vs. txt mode
Hello, I seem to recall from my redhat5/6/7 days that certain installation methods used for kickstarting only invoked text mode install. Now I read that graphical install is default in kickstart on el5/6. However, in my test environment (with older HP DL140G3) I only get text mode install up, even if I specify graphical in kickstart file, with both nfs and http install methods. There's no

ghost jobs through samba
Hi, I run Samba 2.2.7a on a FreeBSD 4.7 server. Samba is installed WITHOUT CUPS support. Recently I shared a printer on a Windows XP machine which is on the network. Since that moment the "ghost" print jobs keep appearing at random. The printer spool identifies them as "Low-level documents". All they are is binary rubbish. I think this has to do with Samba. Here's a

XP "logon failure" but still logs on -- no roaming profile
I'm having a problem with roaming domains on Samba v3.0-alpha21. I've connected the machine (watertown) to the domain (precidia) via the server (griffon). I've logged on with my userid (bcwhite) and seen my roaming profile get created on the server upon logoff. Future logons grab the roaming profile and everything is fine. However, _sometimes_ I get a window with the message:
