Windows ACL clarification for Roaming Profiles share
Hello Marc,
First of all.
https://abhijitw.wordpress.com/2012/03/03/the-local-system-account/
is really outdated.
The Explanation is simply incomplete.
Yes, localy there is SYSTEM. But due to some i think sid/rid whatever wrong mapping its not working correctly in samba when you use GPO settings also.
Per example. And its the last time im telling it.
I beleave that, somewhere somehow, the

Not sure if anything actually uses SYSTEM on Unix, probably not.
However, SYSTEM is used in sysvol and Windows expects it.

Problems with samba and profile syncing from various windows versions
Hai,
Why use time.windows.com, are you pc's not domain joined?
Because if they are join you sync time with the AD DC(s) throught the AD by default.
Works here Win 7 32/64bit up to win 10 32/64bit build 1607.
Setup the following, on you DC's.
Setup ntp and configure ntp.conf
The go here and choose a stratum 1 ntp server. ( more curate )

Since this is a brand new profile it is only ever been from and within Windows 8.1.
I also deployed the registry setting for separatin .V2 and V4 as default, since I had troubles.

Roaming Profiles not working
Hi all,
I need help to set roaming profiles in my network environment.
I follow the samba wiki steps from here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_%26_Windows_Profiles#Implementing_Roaming_Profiles_with_Samba
The user's creation is made by Gosa software, and the settings are the same
in smb.conf.
If i comment all the options related with profiles in smb.conf, the home
folder is mapped and

how asterisk detects silence?
Hello!
As I see there is dsp_drop_silence switch in confbridge.
Could you tell me how asterisk detects silence?
Is it possible to change silence level,
so, let's say some not loud enough background noises will be recognized
as silence
and only loud enough human voice will be recognized as sound?
Thank you!

Problems with samba and profile syncing from various windows versions
Hi!
I've got an old samba installation, now thanks to you all - successfully
upgraded to ubuntu 16.04. Samba is the packaged version
4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.6.
The problem I have is that for some users their profiles do not sync
properly. They seem to upload onto the server, and then at the next logon
some files that were deleted by the user come back. It is more per user
basis or per

Access to shares is denied after upgrading from 3.6.3 (openSUSE 12.1) to 4.1.17 (openSUSE 13.2)
Hi,
please have a look into the attached smb.conf. The only changes since 3.6.3 are commenting out all *security* settings and adding
winbind expand groups = 1
The attached smbusers hasn't been changed yet.
When I try to access share \\platon\root<file:///\\platon\root> as fee\administrator I get the following:
platon:~ # smbclient -c dir -W fee -U administrator%secret

OK, then next things, which come to my mind are:
is the keytab, you set in named.conf.options readable
for the user, under which bind is run.
Then, is the /etc/bind/namedb writable for bind.
And in the end, it might be a screwed up

core not dumped
There is some underlying problem with imap-login but in order to debug
it I'd like to see a core file. On error dovecot reports "core not
dumped". If I put "abort()" in the code at the point it is reporting
then a core file is written, so there is no OS reason why a core can not
be written. It appears to be dovecot's choice to control the child. In

Dynamic DNS Updates not working. samba_dnsupdate : RuntimeError: (sambalist: to exclusive) kinit for [DC@Realm] failed (Cannot contact any KDC for requested realm)
Good morning!
First of all thanks Rowland for the fast answer yesterday! I realized that
samba-technical might have been the wrong mailing list and switched it to
the normal samba users list (hopefully it worked, as it does get a bit
confusing with spamgourmets sendto addresses!). Unfortunately the problem
with samba_dnsupdate remains after the changes.
I did changed the smb.conf, krb5.conf, and

Building libvirt 1.2.13 from source
Hello
I am trying to build libvirt 1.2.13 (latest) from source on a Ubuntu 14.04
64 bit box. After installing all the dependencies (libyajl, libdevmapper,
libpciaccess, libnl), I could finish the build and install. However,
invoking libvirtd throws this:
root@ubuntu:/home/hvishwanath/Downloads/libvirt-1.2.13# libvirtd
libvirtd: /usr/lib/libvirt-qemu.so.0: version `LIBVIRT_QEMU_1.2.3' not

Thank you Louis for that answer! Actually I did get kinit and
samba_dnsupdate working, though I am unsure how. I tried some changes to
krb5.conf in the [realms] and [domain_realm] sections, als well as
setting dns_lookup_realm = false to true, but reverted it all back to the
initial file:
[libdefaults]
default_realm = INTRANET.MAYWEG.NET
dns_lookup_realm = false
dns_lookup_kdc = true

Hi guys,
thanks again for the quick answers. First, the smb.conf on the linux
fileserver. It is quite long, as I took the old file (working version from
samba3 configuration) and only made adjustments, like adding the realm.
/etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
### Browsing/Identification ###
workgroup = MAYWEG.NET
realm = INTRANET.MAYWEG.NET
netbios name = server13
smb ports = 139, 445
