vfs_fruit: FreeBSD: attrname is wrong
In case of FreeBSD, the name of the extended attribute is wrong.
% lsextattr user ICONandEA.txt
ICONandEA.txt netatalk.Metadata com.apple.TextEncoding com.apple.metadata:kMDItemFinderComment
"netatalk.Metadata" is incompatible to Netatalk.
The first atom "org." is removed.

The colon problem is not corrected yet.

Copy a directory from macOS to Samba fails
Hi,
unfortunately copying a directory from macOS to a Samba share fails, if
the macOS set ACLs in the source directory. The error on macOS side
basically informs the user, that the operation can’t be completed
because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
Unfortunately macOS automatically sets these ACLs sometimes. Relevant
lines in my configuration file:

Netatalk and Samba???
Hi all,
Looking for a "best practices" way to share out to both Mac and PC easily.
I know Windoze enables the same sharepoint for both the mac and pc shares
and there don't seem to be any real "problems" by doing that. However I
work in an environment which forces us to utilize Win9x through XP as well
as OS 9 through 10.x on the mac side. I need a user friendly way to

Bugg when using Extended Attributes flag -X
Hello,
I found that using rsync on OS X can give some problems when it comes to Extended Attributes (-X flag).
The server I use has Ubuntu with the filesystem XFS and I am trying to backup a OS X system to it. The problem is as far as I understand it that Linux Kernel has a liming on 64k f?r Extended Attributes and OS X don?t have this limit.
Some error output.

Protocol stream error on extended attribute, silent failure to copy all attributes
I'm using rsync 3.0.7 on Mac OS X 10.6, compiled according to Mike
Bombich's instructions at http://www.bombich.com/rsync.html. Rsync
repeatedly exits with a protocol data stream error when trying to copy
some com.apple.FinderInfo extended attributes. While testing this issue,
I found that rsync is not actually copying all extended attributes even
when there is no error message. I'm

Using pre2 for backing up a mac
With the new ACL+xattr support and fake super (I'm glad this made it
in!), it seems like my dream of being able to use rsync --link-dest
to backup my mac is almost within reach!
If you take a look at

you can get an overview of the meta-data which needs to be saved for

vfs fruit unable to create xattr and ACL from OS X 10.10.4
Hello
I am trying to integrate OS X 10.10.4 clients into existing Samba infractructure run by our IT department.
We are currently using Samba 4.2.3.
File share is stored on iSCSI array with ext4 filesystem which should support both ACL and XATTR.
We are trying to setup vfs_fruit module to avoid possible performance problems on OS X clients.
We do NOT user netatalk.
Current vfs_fruit config:

move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and
so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to
go get rid of netatalk these days?
is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble
extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them
back in the new format?
afp.conf:
appledouble = ea
ea = samba
