Trailing slash in destination
Good afternoon all,
I'm currently working on a backup script that will fetch a set of logs
from remote machines and store them on a central machine.
The command I'm using is of the form
${RSYNC} -avz root@${site}:/data/access_* ${LOG_REPOSITORY}/${site}/
Each site usually holds about 8 files with the prefix "access_". Some
machines however only have one, and this is where my

I'm setting up a new Samba 4 Domain on a Debian Jessie machine.
The dc works.
Now I'm trying to setup a fileserver following the samba wiki.
winbind is running on both machines, getent and wbinfo show the users and
groups of the domain.
However, when I try
net rpc rights list accounts -U"MYDOM\Administrator"
Enter MYDOM\Administrator's password:

RSync with /really/ long file lists
Hi everyone!
rsync 2.5.7
linux RHES v3
We need to sync over 4 Million files, and when we run rsync we run out of
memory! :(
We were going to batch things, but the build in Batch mode still will use a
large amount of memory. Any manualy batching is proving to be harder than
you'd think, even with --include and --exclude flags. The flags actually make
it still have to recurse the whole

Problems with migration from SuSE 10.0 to debian etch
Hello,
after a total crash of hardware, we had to reconstruct our Samba PDC from
tape.
Since the old installation was already pretty old (SuSE 10.0) we moved to
Debian etch.
I did the following.
I migrated the machines from the old passwd and shadow files to the new ones.
Then I copied all data and the whole directory /etc/samba to the new machine.
Then I set the permissions of the data to

Access Problems
Hello,
I have a very strange access problem, and do not know how to get rid of it.
We have a server with a Raid 1 installed running under SuSE 9.2 (Samba
3.0.9-2.3).
There are some shares where several users need access to. The permissions of
the directories are
rwxrwxr-x user1 users
when files on that shares are accessed by a Windows Client a strange behaviour
occurs.

an unusual use for R
I thought some of you might be amused by this.
In my non-work time, I'm an avid weaver and teacher of weaving. I'm
working on a project involving creating many detailed weaving
patterns, so I wrote R code to automate it.
Details here:

[PATCH] ocfs2: Use the right access_* method in ctime update of xattr.
In ctime updating of xattr, it use the wrong type of access for
inode, so use ocfs2_journal_access_di instead.

Shared mailbox: share whole inbox
Hi,
I'd like to share the whole INBOX of one user with another. That should
go through:
doveadm acl add -u user1 at example.cz SharedDirectory
user=user2 at example.cz lookup read insert
It's works fine, when I connect through imap I see:
. list "" "*"* LIST (\Noselect \HasChildren) "/" shared* LIST (\Noselect

I'd like to know if the following issues happen to you too.

Wine needs a long time to start
Hi everyone!
I'm using Ubuntu Dapper and today i build an individual kernel based on
the vanilla sources for 2.6.16 with the CK Patchset.
Everything works fine, except wine. Everytime i start an application
with wine or just winecfg it needs a long time to come up.
Winecfg e.g. needs about 2 minutes (with the default Ubuntu kernel
abount 10s). During that wait time i can hear some

Linux virus
ugh :)
Today I became infected with the bliss virus, any info on this would be
appreciated! How do I scan for files infected and is it possible to
remove it? I first noticed the infection when running a program (not as
root) messages flashed on the screen about transversing directories and
such. The program (gimp) had been working fine since I downloaded the
binary for gimp from their main
