User's DPAPI/backupkey protected data lost when changing domain password
After a user changes their password (CTRL-ALT-DEL) in our Samba 4 domain
(4.1.12) they lose access to any stored passwords on their Windows PC.
I've set the log level in smb.conf to 4 and enabled the GPO to record DPAPI
log entries in Windows to get the below log data.
My reading of the two is that the Windows PC believes it is failing to reset
the access to its DPAPI store (where the saved

AD RODC not being used because of missing DNS entries?
Hi,
We have encountered these timeout issues with Samba 4.7 as an RODC too.
We created a ticket about it here :
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13502
One thing is that even after the timeouts got resolved, I still get a
weird behaviour with two entries that keeps trying to update themselves
when I run "samba_dnsupdate". The call succeeds, but the entries are

can I preserve UIDs/GIDs when transferring with rsync?
I noticed that rsync can preserve most of the file's characteristics
when it is used with "-a" option (it includes -o and -g flags for
preserving owners and groups).
However, when I transfer data between systems, it affects my UIDs/GIDs,
making the data hard to recover.
Example:
Sending side:
/etc/passwd:
mark:x:503:503::/home/mark:/bin/bash
file:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 mark mark

Best way to generate Unix UIDs and GIDs?
Hi,
For a new samba domain, I need to create users and groups with Unix UIDs
and GIDs.
In the future, it is possible that there will be a trust with other
domains, so I need to take care that there won't be any UID/GID
conflict. Also, I assume that in the future Samba will be able to
restore deleted objects, so I need to avoid conflicts with those objects
as well.
This makes me think that a

Winbind, rids, gids, uids
Is there any SIMPLE way to maintain consistent mappings between windows
RIDs and UNIX/LINUX UIDs/GIDs among multiple samba servers servers
running winbindd? Will that problem be addressed in future samba
releases? I've read about the "idmap backend" possible solution but is
that the only current one? Help!!!

Zombie UIDs and GIDs

I have a severe problem with gluster:
User and Group IDs are broken, but not in all directories:

uids/gids changed after upgrade from 3.021c to 3.023
Hi All,
Yesterday, I've upgraded my Samba server from 3.021c to 3.023 through
yum upgrade
samba*.
I'm running Fedora Core 4 Kernel 2.6.17-1.2142 on this server.
After upgrade has been completed, I lost the attributes of ownership and
groups. I noticed that the uids/gids have changed for all AD accounts.
This
means that users can't have total access for their files and no access

rsync - Management of UIDs and GIDs when reserved on a Remote system
Hi Wayne et al,
I've been using Linux for a little over a year now.
I'm making improvements to the English phrasing used by luckyBackup which
uses rsync. English is my first language and I'm doing this so that I can,
then, more accurately make translations for the Spanish language.
I would like to know how rsync would manage the situation where the UID and
GID(s), of a file being

UIDs/GIDs Mapping and Permissions in Samba
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I'm wondering how essential it is to ensure that Samba User/Group to
UIDs/GIDs mapping across various Samba servers remain consistent.
I realise that Samba uses the extended ACLs and also uses extended
attributes to store blobs of Windows ACL information; specifically the
reason for this is that Windows ACLs don't map 1:1 with POSIX

Winbind do not maintains mappings between UIDs, GIDs and SIDs
Hello,
I?m trying to use winbind to allow my AD users to logon to our linux
computers.
I?m using FC6 and Samba 3.0.23c-2.
I have several problems:
1. When I start linux machine and immediately ofter logging in I try to
check trust secret by running wbinfo -t
I receive this error:
checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
error code was NT_STATUS_DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_NOT_FOUND (0xc0000233)

No, rsync would store the files with the numeric UID and GID as is on
the source without regard to the existence or non-existence of a
matching account. This could mean that ls would show numbers in those
columns, or incorrect names in those columns, or (perhaps by
coincidence) show the correct names in those columns. The important
thing is that if

mapping winbind users to nis uids and gids
Hello!
I've got users that access linux file server from Win stations using
Samba
and winbind authentication but also have AIX based workstations
accessing
the same server using nis authentication. They have the same username
registered in NIS domain and in Windows domain.
Is it possible to map winbind users (usually using uid & gid > 10000) to
nis
users, so user john
