SWAT login - is password entry secure?
Samba group members, Is the password that I specify when logging into SWAT handled securely? I'd like to use the Samba Web Administration Tool (SWAT) to create and administer Samba "shares" that will be used by our users of ClearCase on Windows. That requires that I log in to the Samba host as "root". I access SWAT via Internet Explorer (from any machine) buy

Administering SWAT using userid's other than root...
Hi all... Has anyone got SWAT administration working from other userid's other than root? I've got a rh6.2 box running Samba 2.0.7. I have myself (wkim) in the "domain admin users" and the "admin users". Both the smb.conf file and the swat binarary are owned by root:swat. I'm a part of group "swat". (I'm also a part of group "root" just to

AD administrator can't administer
Over time I have ignored the fact that my AD administrator has stopped being able to administer. For example, the Ad administrator cannot install drivers or updates. Once a week now, I logout as workstation user and login as the "local administrator" to install drivers or run windows updates (in today's case a printer driver on the workstation.) Does this falls into that "gray

Access denied, and other problems, trying to administer printers
Hi all. We are running Samba 4.4.10 as an NT-domain server on Solaris 10. The server is also used to store printer preferences and drivers. We are using LDAP as the passdb backend. Now we need to change some printing preferences and change one printer driver, however I can not do any of those things any more (last time I did it we was running Samba 3.x...). When I log in to a Win 7 computer as

SWAT conflicts w/ Apache 1.3 HTTP server???
Hello, I am running a small network, Win., FreeBSD (Unix), & Macs., administering through SWAT. Needing to run an intranet I installed an Apache 1.3 HTTP server running in standalone mode. Now I have lost the ability to access SWAT through the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:901 port. Guess it requires some special configuration of the server - SWAT runs in inetd mode, will this cause a conflict?

W7 client cannot adjust file permissions via ADUC
I have been improving my DC. I now have a DC01, DC02 and a DCMEMBER01. All running sernet-samba 4.1.16 on Debian 7.8.0 thanks to Louis' (old) scripts. (Any linux client work has gone on hold, for the moment.) Next step was to adjust the file permissions as instructed on "Setup and configure file shares with Windows ACLs". When I access the "Computer Management" (thru ADUC

Kerberos5 ticket renewal & 'net ads join' w/o authentication
Hello, I have two issues with Kerberos administration using Samba and this results from my lack of familiarity with it. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. The first issue is with automatically renewing the Kerberos tickets. The second issue deals with my having to authenticate each time I attempt to join an AD domain. The Samba documentation indicates that I should *not*

Access denied, and other problems, trying to administer printers
Hi, Today I finally got time to do some more testing. I set up a Windows 10 machine but got the same problem (just wanted to make sure...). I will do more testing tomorrow but I have a question about an error I'm seeing in the logs. Do You know what "access DENIED for non-printserver bits" (log level 3) means? SWAT (eroneously) reports smbd/nmbd not working
hi all, I just installed samba 2.2.0 on a Digital SMP server and I can tell that administering it via SWAT is the bigest step since man walking on the moon. but... SWAT eroneously reports smbd/nmbd not working while they are working. And even more, the smbd/nmbd [start]/[restart] buttons have dissapeared. Why is that ? Samba4 syncpassword fails
Hello, We are facing an issue with samba syncpassword which doesn't work anymore. We use it to synchronize samba4 password into a remote ldap used by applications. It has been working flawlessly for more than 2 years. Our architecture: 2 main DC on the main site and about 10 remote DC (with site topology). We synchronize the password with a daemonized python script used on every DC. For
