Cannot log in to IMAP server and logs are unclear as to why
Hi Aki, Thanks for the response. I'm, unfortunately, a little confused. This is the only line in /etc/dovecot/users: test at test.com:{plain}test Which matches your suggestion to use the full smtp address as the username and log in with it, which I did for my test. Can you specify what it was you thought I should try differently? Regardless, I see your point about trying a less complex

Cannot log in to IMAP server and logs are unclear as to why
Hi Aki, Again, thanks very much for your response. Your solution of adding the colons worked. Actually, I futzed with it a little bit and it works with as few as 2 added colons. This is interesting since in the examples section of https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/authentication/passwd_file/ it explicitly states: ----------------------- This file can be used as a passdb:

Cannot log in to IMAP server and logs are unclear as to why
Hi! I tried with your config and I got: Jun 05 08:43:30 auth-worker(11465): Error: passwd-file /etc/dovecot/users: User test at test.com is missing userdb info This is because your line is missing sufficient amount of colons, try changing test at test.com:{plain}test into test at test.com:{plain}test::::::::::: Aki > On 05/06/2020 02:31 Scott A. Make world problem compiling Xen 4.0.1 from source
Greetings, Xen gurus! Per the Ubuntu community documentation at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Xen#Maverick%20Notes%20(Xen%204.0.1%20pvops%20on%20Ubuntu%2010.10) I am trying to install Xen 4.0.1 from source which I got from bits.xensource.com/oss-xen/release/4.0.1/xen-4.0.1.tar.gz because apparently the ubuntu-xen-server package has broken dependencies. The instructions as provided state

Special use folders in mailbox hierarchy
Dear Dovecot Gurus, Setting up my first IMAP server and looking at the folder structure, I had a mailbox I built on a Dovecot server and a mailbox configured by a hosting provider next to each other in Thunderbird and I noticed that the special use folders (Drafts, Trash and Sent) in my default-ish (I did set them to auto = subscribe) Dovecot install make these folders appear parallel to my

OK, so after several weeks of trying to get various versions of Xen running of various distributions, I''m starting to wonder if I''ve got a hardware compatibility problem and as the system never really boots with the Xen kernel I''ve got no log files to tell me where the problem is. I was wondering if there''s a way to compile from source with debug turned on,

Send SPF SoftFails to Junk
Hello Dovecot gurus, I've set up SPF checking on my postfix gateway and have confirmed that messages from domains set with hard fails that don't come from a good sender are rejected outright. Messages from domains set with a softfail that come from bad sources are tagged in the message header with "Softfail (domain owner discourages use of this host)", but end up in the

Urgent - Help needed
Hi Benny and Dovecot, Thanks for the reply. Actually my question is, is it possible to verify anything now whether the email has been pulled by application/server from the "Maildir/new" or "Maildir/cur" folder in my POP3 server? at present I am not using lmtp yet. When I configured the outlook to access the one of the email box in the server, I get the email. But do we have

maildir boxes directory mode upon creation
Hello, list ! Dovecot version is 2.2.27, running on Centos 6.7. Postfix is receiving mail and putting it into mailboxes. Dovecot just serves IMAP/POP3 connections to mailboxes. Virtual users are stored in DB. The problem is in directory mode (and thus file mode) for new mailboxes upon it's creation. If I create new record for new mailbox in DB and send mail to it, Postfix will create

LMTP with Postfix Problem
Here's a maillog entry that's one of many I receive when I try sending a test message to my system. The recipient is a virtual user in /etc/virtual. The way I'm expecting it to work is that my message from me to this Postfix virtual user will be sent back to me. Every time the message delivery is attempted, Dovecot says the LMTP directory doesn't exist. I thought it was created

logging LMTP activity
Hello, I've been trying to set up Postfix + Dovecot LMTP setup. Basic idea taken from https://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/PostfixDovecotLMTP, but since Postfix is on different host inet listener is used instead of unix socket. Message delivery works. Messages are delivered to correct mailboxes, if they exist. But the problem is with logging on Dovecot side; i can not get any lmtp logs at

problem to configuration dovecot and postfix
Hi, I'm having a problem with dovecot and postfix. I'm using a dovecot version 2.0.13. Postfix (Version: 2.8.5) config is changed according to the http://wiki2.dovecot.org/LDA/Postfix: I have thought to build a virtual user and virtual mailbox, and use the functionality of the Sieve. However, when the test set, the mail not received the mailbox. Record that there was a "temporary

Unable to see virtual users
I'm still having trouble getting users accepted by postfix + dovecot. I have a few (<10) virtual users configured in a passwd-style file in /etc/dovecot/users. I can verify that dovecot sees those users and can authenticate them using 'doveadm' as well as IMAP. I also have one system user configured via PAM. I can verify that dovecot sees this user and can authenticate using

Postfix + LMTP with virtual users: how to strip domain from LMTP RCPT TO
Hi, I am trying to set up my own mail server (to get off Google) and I have a problem with mail delivery. I'm using Postfix as a SMTP front-end, and use the LMTP server included in dovecot to receive mail from postfix. I have a setup which works with the dovecot LDA, it involves calling dovecot-lda with the -d flag. Postfix computes the username by removing what's after the

Postfix and Dovecot LDA vs. LMTP
Thanks Jan. I've been trying to obtain an English copy of the Dovecot book for months, prior to starting this project. So far, I just can't find a copy. It's too bad that the author/publisher won't do a second printing or, if they're not interested in making any more money, then release it to the public domain as a PDF. Very frustrating.
