Current thinking on backups ?
I run a pair of dovecot servers for personal small domains with several layers of backup in place ... - The two dovecot servers replicate to each via a Tinc vpn mesh. That gives email resiliency. - All mail is replicated via offlineimap to a 3rd server over that Tinc vpn. It's on the mesh, it has space, so why not ? - All mail is replicated as well as via mbsync to a zfs dataset on my

autoupdate broke
When attempting to perform autoupdate after my 'autogen.sh' broke, it says that there is missing a file called: dovecot/core/doc/wiki/Makefile.am But in the Github repository, there is a misnamed file named "Makefile.am.in". I think this file is misnamed and should be renamed to "Makefile.am". https://github.com/dovecot/core/tree/master/doc/wiki

Email Server Backup Strategy
Hello, Was thinking it would be wise to backup my server, in case anything "bad" ever happened, so that I could quickly get up to speed. 1. clone the whole drive -- which might be the best to ensure I keep the whole system working. 2. But, what about, if I just wanted to backup my Email server components? Postfix - which I think is just config files, and Dovecot - I think there is a

Getting rsync to store timing information in its logs
Is there a way to know from the rsync logs how long it took to do a backup? The only timing info,. I see is this at the end: sent 3067328 bytes received 7853035429 bytes 1187888.83 bytes/sec total size is 1559866450336 speedup is 198.55 Can I use it to figure out how long the operation took? Does the above mean it took 2.5 secs of send time and 1.8 hours of recieve time so (roughly) the

iterate_query with static userdb ?
Hi, Going by the "static userdb" example? on this page (https://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers#homedirs), tried to achieve a similar setup in conjunction with pgsql for passdb. However I get an error "auth: Warning: sql: Ignoring changed iterate_query in /etc/dovecot/local_sql_users.conf, because userdb sql not used. (If this is intentional, set userdb_warning_disable=yes)"

minimal configuration for lucene fts
Hi, I'm using dovecot (version 2.2.13 on archlinux) in the simplest, no-brainer way possible. It sits between mbsync, which I use to fetch mail from servers, and Gnus, my MUA. Both mbsync and Gnus connect to dovecot with an invocation like this: /usr/lib/dovecot/imap -o mail_location=maildir:$HOME/.mail/ea/ I have three different mail accounts, all that changes is the final directory on the

interrupt pipe disabled
Hello, I'm testing an APC SMT3000RMI2U connected to an USB port with Nut 2.7.2. I've got the message : "interrupt pipe disabled (add 'pollonly' flag to 'ups.conf' to get rid of this message)" I've been looking for "pollonly" in the usbhid-ups man page, but it didn't help me. Could someone explain me what does this means exactly ? What are

migrate Maildir to mdbox
Hi, I replaced HDDs in my home server and reinstalled the OS (Ubuntu 17.04). Since I had some time I reviewed my Dovecot configuration and changed a couple of things, including mailbox format. Now I would like to migrate e-mail (about 20G -- I use this server as an e-mail archive). The Maildir is available on the (old) hard disk. The new dovecot is running. What should I use? Would mbsync work?

What about ZFS ?
Hi everybody, I'm looking for information about using GlusterFS with ZFS. I got information that talked about a sort of incompatibility between the both technologies because of unsupported xattr feature in ZFS. What are the latest news about this ? Thank you in advance.

Changing self test date
Hello, does any one know how to change the date of the self tests on APC UPSes ? I'd like to be able to choose the day and the hour so that it happens at office hours, in case of any problem... I've tried to do this by launching a test at a convenient time, but the self tests still occurs at the previous date and hour :-( Regards. -- Frantz de Germain D?partement Informatique UFR

IMAP to Maildir Migration preserving UIDs?
Hello all, I'm facing the need to migrate from a proprietary IMAP server to Dovecot. The migration must be as smooth and transparent as possible. The mailbox format I would want to use is Maildir++. The storage format used by the current server is unknown, and I don't look forward to trying to reverse-engineer it. This leaves me with the option of reading the mailboxes using IMAP.
